Mountain Biking - Choosing a new bike, help.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Anyone have some suggestions? Currently I have a GT Saddleback, I think it's a '99. I was looking for something more advanced if you catch my drift.. :)

budget? type of riding? both of these would be the deciding factors in what you get.
$1000 dollars or less, I usually ride on rough terrain.

Do you know if Haro MTB are good?
To be honest dude, i think that these guys can help you MUCH more, if you were to be a tad more revealing :D
What weight are you? (fork choices), where do you ride?, what type of riding (XC/DH etc)? How much are you willing to spend? How often do you ride? Has anything caught your eye?
I probably couldnt help you with this, as i am a newb myself, this is just to give the guys here a better jist of your situation. From one newb to another, good luck man, i will be looking for my own new MTB pretty soon. :D Until then, im a confirmed roadie:D

Haro makes a solid mountain bike, however, due to their BMX backgrounds, they are usually heavier than similar bikes. That means that they're stronger. Their purchasing agent/buyer is doing something right, as their bikes are coming spec'd with accessories usually found on bikes costing 10-15% more. Haro doesn't do a whole lotta R&D and depend more on using tried and true geometries and techniques. Their full suspension is an almost exact replica of a Santa Cruz, only with heavier tubing. Good frame, good reviews and STRONG!
If I were on a budget, or had some extra money to buy another playbike, I'd definately consider one of their Escape's 8.3 models. I was going to buy their Extreme X.3 while I was in-between bikes for something to ride and bash w/o breaking the bank.
To sum up: Good bikes, good prices, but heavier!
