I don't know if I got this copied right, but you can go to this site for a fun, short movie. It's as the title suggests.
Oops. It didn't seem to show up. Go to russianhillroulette.com.

Wow, that was great! Thanks... having climbed one 23% block in Daly City (south of SF) - I can sort of relate. Sort of... I didn't know it was 23% at the time or I probably wouldn't have tried. Makes my daily 11% climb back home look puny. Doesn't feel that way to me.

Interesting, but to make them worse, add gravel. Just got back from 3+ hours doing intervals (they FELT like intervals) on stuff like that - but they were rock and gravel. I feel pretty good that I only had to walk a couple of times when I just couldn't get enough traction.
I think there is something seriously wrong with me - I really like hills.

Oh, you know a hill is bad when you dismount and it feels like you are falling! Know what I mean?

It worked...
Wow! I'm not sure I would even attempt one like that. I might be able to make it about 1/4 of the way:)

I've driven some of those in a car and that was bad enough.
I've walked a couple and that was brutal.
Ride a 31% grade on a bike? Even for one block? I'm not that kind of crazy.

Wow! That guy is a climbing machine.
I would love to be half that good.
Losing say, 60 pounds, would be a good start.

Oh yeah... there *is* that, isn't there. 60 lbs and maybe be about 15, 20 years younger
Yeah, that would about cover it.

That was a cute movie.
When I lived in SF, I once tried to take me, my wife, and two daughters up one of those hills in nothing but a Datsun 310. Midway up it simply wouldn't go forward, making me shift into neutral and costing down backwards until the road flattened.
Luckily, as you could guess from the film, these are by and large lightly traveled streets. Good thing. It was scary.
Those are steep!! I sure hope there aren't any hills like those on my ride this weekend.
Needless to say if SF got some snow on the roads those streets would be probably be a touch unsafe????

Oh, it's fun to watch... not only are the roads steep and slippery but no one here knows anything about driving in snow. I remember a pretty good snow here in 1976 where cars were just sliding all over the place because they didn't know how to maintain speed. They'd slow down and then try to hit the gas again and -shooooop- off ht road they'd go.

Thanks. After a lap on the local MTB torture track in preparing for Sunday's race, it feels good to see something that looks even harder. Then again, that guy didn't have to weave around and float over roots and rocks or squeeze between trees while he climbed those hills.
For some reason I kept looking for Steve McQueen to come flying over the tops of those hills in a Mustang.
