i'm as giddy as a school girl at her junior prom. sooo many cd's out/coming out.
there have been a few reviews here on some of them. what are your thoughts on some of the others
rush - i'm holding off on my full review for now. i haven't even listened to it 10 times yet. BUT, i am extremely impressed with alex' sound and style. he tries some new things on this cd and they are friggin awesome!
porcupine tree
no man (i got it with the new pt and rush...haven't gotten around to listening to it yet)
dream theater (my fave band along with rush and pt).
ozzy
paul gilbert
hellyeah (not my style of music but i like chad gray)
qotsa
chris cornell (never was a huge fan but i'm curious to hear his new sound)
there are a few other prog rock cd's i may get that will be out soon like kamelot, symphony x and devin townsend

I dunno about the new Rush album. Love the instrumentals, the other songs are good but not really growing on me.
Also new or soon:
Suzanne Vega - Beauty & Crime
Jason Webley and Reverend Peyton - Two Bottles of Wine
They Might Be Giants - The Else
...and, of course, waiting to hear about the Beatles remasters.

now that i've got more listens in
here's what i think of the new rush;
its a guitar fan's album. i won't say that it's alex' "best" or most "ground breaking" axe work. however, it is among is best and most ground breaking. it's certainly his most versatile work on any one album.
i hate vapor trails. the music and songwriting on the new cd as a whole are reminiscent of their music for the 15 years prior to vapor trails. a couple of songs remind me of the presto era. presto gets knocked constantly but i rather enjoy that cd.
from an overall songwriting point of view, i think this is their best work since hold your fire (and signals before that).

Never liked one as a kid, must revisit it soon, though. I keep hearing it's very good.

i can understand why some people feel this way...and to some extent i agree...at least regarding rush after the signals album.

Poison has a Covers disc out and it is actually quite good. It has the covers that they already ahve done, like Your Mamma Don't Dance, Rock N Roll All Nite, We're An american Band and such, plus What I like About You, Just What I Needed, the Stones' Dead Flowers and David Bowie's Suffragette City.
Every year I shell out and see these guys on tour, and they play the same damned set list everytime. I hope they mix it up with this new CD

Jason Webley and Reverend Peyton - Two Bottles of Wine
They Might Be Giants - The Else
The Webley/Peyton disc is very good, the best collaboration "Eleven" album yet. TMBG's The Else is, well, dissapointing. Competent enough, but given the last two albums, just mediocre.

dream theater (my fave band along with rush and pt).
Sweet. I hope it's good. They seem to be hit or miss. I did enjoy the last one, Octavarium and the 3CD live set.
Awake is still my favorite.

The wheels fell off after Moving Pictures. However, they are still a great live show.
