The 2004 dura-ace must be getting ready to come out on the market. I am seeing to current dura-ace going on sale. Has anyone else seen this yet? One specific place I saw it was on performance bicycle.

Does anyone know the specifics behind cassette offerings for the 2004 D-A?

Yes, I know it's going to be 10sp but I was wondering what the cassettes would look like in terms of tooth-counts and spread.

What I'd really love to see would be something that says that a 12-13-14-15-16-17-19-21-24-27 cassette will be available.

Here are Campy's 10 speed gear offerings. I'd expect Shimano to follow a similar path.

11 - 12 - 13 - 14 - 15 - 16 - 17 - 18 - 19 - 21
11 - 12 - 13 - 14 - 15 - 16 - 17 - 19 - 21 - 23
12 - 13 - 14 - 15 - 16 - 17 - 19 - 21 - 23 - 25
13 - 14 - 15 - 16 - 17 - 18 - 19 - 21 - 23 - 26
13 - 14 - 15 - 16 - 17 - 19 - 21 - 23 - 26 - 29

The one constant you'll notice that current Shimano is lacking is the 16 tooth sprocket. The Shimano cassette I currently run 12/25 could really use a 16 tooth sprocket.

This is the reason why I've been contemplating a move to Campy. I was hoping the new 10sp cassette moight rectify this. I have a 12-27 and am constantly hunting between the 15 and 17. The 16 is available in the 11-21, 12-21 and 12-23 but I need the lower gearing in a 12-27 because there are quite a few steep hills here and I'm running a double up front. I would gladly trade my 12 for a Campy 13-29 that included a 16. I'd be a little reluctant to go to a 12-25 though.

I assume that once you intend to add the 10 speed cassette you will need to add the DA RDR/FDR, Crank, new chain, etc???

I would love a 10 speed cassette for my C'dale but alas it only has 105 group on it.

Well that was what I was trying to get out of the following discussion...

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29666

'course that's about a Shimano to Campy conversion or rather partial conversion. I think to go from DA-9 to DA-10, I'd probably need new brifters, RD, chain and cassette. I'm not sure if I need to touch my crankset, FD and BB but I might depending upon chainline constraints.

Has anybody seen the tv ads for the road bike that shifts by itself? (can't remember the name).

Khoun,I rode with some guys that work in the LBS this morning, and asked them your question. At this time that info has not been released. They said that he hopes to have info after July.

Check out this page:

http://cycle.shimano.co.jp/frame_2004newpro.html

It shows all the pictures of the new groupset on shimano's japanese website. The descriptions are in japanese of course, but you can make out many pertinent details such as weight, cassette combinations and chainring combos.

To my great pleasure it seems shimano is doing the right thing and taking their current 9sp ratios and inserting the 10th cog in the middle, leading to more of a straight block. In fact, you can get a 12-21 straight block! I thought the way campy determined their 10sp ratios was stupid. Who needs a 25 or 26 in regular everyday riding. A good and tight 12-23 ro 12-21 st block is so much better!

Feast your eyes on it. I called shimano north america about it and they weren't even aware that shimano hq was divulging all the details they are not allowed to talk about.

the new dura ace is going to be awesome! So many innovations and fantastic technology. I don't want to start a flame war here but what innovations have campy come up with in the last twenty years since shimano got rolling? Shimano? How about index shifting, sti shifting, hyperglide cogs and superglide chainrings, splined cranks and bbs and now the new development of previous technology in the new cranks( and xtr), cassette hubs ( I think... at least they were the ones to really make them work!).

I can't think of a single campy innovation to compare, and before anyone says it, going to 10sp before shimano did doesn't count as genuine innovation.

It depends on where you live and how fit you are. I live at the top of a plateau. Unless I just want to tool around on top or shuttle myself back and forth to the bottom via car, every route home involves between a 10% and 12% mile long climb. The 39x27 allows me to do it semi-regularly and still walk the next day.

Woohoo! I see a 16 in the 12-27 cassette! Now I wonder if I can run a Shimano 10sp cassette in a Campy Record-10 drivetrain...

Besides the crankset being butt-ugly ;) , I saw somewhere that one of the cranks - offside, I assume - is permanently mated to the axle! Has anyone seen that? Seems a little odd, to say the least.

Cheers...Gary

It's a trickle-down (trickle-sideways?) from the new XTR crankset in their MTB lineup which itself is a copy of the Bullseye cranks from years past. The spindle is attached to the right crankarm. The left crankarm attaches via pinchbolts and a preload-cap much like a threadless stem. Cannondale/CODA cranks also used this design. I've heard that anyone who's had to deal with the Bullseyes have cursed them when the interfaces develop a little bit of play.

Well now I guess I can change out to the DA 10 speed when it's available but then I will have to upgrade the Flight Deck to 10 speed. I haven't heard about a 6502 Flight Deck yet. What will I do if I upgrade to 10 speed....there is no 10th bubble on my Flight Deck (Shimano engineer heard saying with a whisper..."I knew we forgot something when we came up with this 10 speed stuff, hurry up, someone get an other bubble on the Flight Deck"!

I'm wondering if they're not going to come out with a 10sp FlightDeck until Ultegra goes 10sp. Think about how the numbering system for their components work. FlightDeck is also incompatible with the new XTR group even though that's still 9sp. I'm betting they won't release a new compatible computer interface until the Deore group gets Dual-Control brifters.

Khoun-

what part of Seattle are you catching your breath along side a road? I used to live up in Mill Creek (by the QFC on 164th).

Just wondering..
