Hello, all, my name is Michael and I'm in Oakland, CA.

I just recently starting bicycling after taking a break of well a couple ... a few ... several... well, 46 years give or take a few years. I started high school in the early 60s and it wasn't cool to bike in high school. The last bike I rode before now was this Schwin with the three gear switch on the handle bar.

Jogging was starting to get to my knees too much so I bought a Serotta for the roads and it is light and beautiful and has all these slick gizmos and widgets that all have names. I'm getting around and loving it and amazed at how far and fast you can go on a bike....have done some rides with the Oakland YellowJackets...I have a great deal to learn.... for example, today I just bent the chain trying to get it back on the gear after it dropped off... bike is back in the shop for today. Oh well.

At any rate, I'm a 59-year-old newbie and I'll have a lot of questions. Thank you all for being here...

Hello Michael, there aren't a lot of members in Oakland proper (at least I don't think so), but there are plenty of Bay Area folks here. Just check out the Northern California regional forum...

Welcome to BF!
