I was thinking of ordering these shifters for my trek 6000. anyone have any experience with them? them seem to be a good price at jenson, and I was planning on replacing shifters and brake levers anyway.

Good price, but I HATE them. If you munch a lever you're out a shifter as well. I prefer to have separate components as it offers more flexibility.
i love my xtr dual control shifters
i love my xtr dual control shifters
$468 msrp . Presuming Hydraulic of course. Or $319 for the V-brake version Thanks, but no thanks

Have you ever used them? I'm with salsa I love my XT dual controls. Never "munched" a lever, dual control or not, since I've been riding.

Yes, as a matter of fact I have. I've assembled plenty of bikes with them and to this day I still hate them. My hatred for "flippy" levers is nothing new. <Voice=Pee Wee Herman > Since you love them so much why don't ya marry them</voice>

i like my lx's but i can see where raiyn doesn't like them.
they're nice and all, but unless you've got the xtr's they don't seem the strongest levers out there.
i don't think i've ever come close to breaking one, but i'd hate to just snap it off, cuz it seems possible.
also a thing for me, was do you really wanna go with shimano or sram, but i'm assuming you've already got that down.. for me, i've been having a little trouble with shimano, but it gets the job done... sigh*, shimano will always be shimano, and sram will always be sram...*
For xc, I love them. Downhill are ok. Freeride they suck.
I hate having that in really techy or big air situations. They do have their appeal (simplicity in cockpit, wieght and personal preferances) for certain applications.
I'd say get them, becasue tou need new shifters/brakes, and its for a xc bike.
I bought those exact levers/shifters from Jenson and didn't realize they were the dual levers until they showed up. I didn't like the ide and sent them back. I ride with my fingers on the levers at all times and don't want to be shifting by accident over rough terrain.

Funny.

As do I. I accidentally shifted only 2 or 3 times when I first got them two years ago and haven't done it since. Once you get used to them it's actually nice to be able to shift and brake at the same time all in one motion.

I love  my Deore LX brake lever/shifters but I have not broke a lever yet

I would recommend considering Avid Speed Dial brake levers (http://www.blueskycycling.com/product53_69_-2007-Avid-Speed-Dial-7-Brake-Levers.htm)- very nice feel with easy to adjust leverage. Match these up with XT pods. (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/SL600A00-Shimano+Xt+Sl-M751+Rapidfire+Shifters.aspx) This is a bulletproof combination that I am very happy with.

I'm not a fan personally, but to each his own I say, I don't care if you use them or not :p

I would tend to agree. Speed Dial levers kick ass, and the XT pods are nice.

they don't accidently shift on you. you have to push them prettey far to shift.

I just got a set of those shifters too. I thought I would try something new. I've been using rapids and thumbies forever. I also picked up the M580 rear der for $30.
Oh, and it's common to get an M580 front der on ebay for about $15-$20.

Have you used the low-normal setup before? I switched last year and wouldn't go back now that I'm used to it.

^^^ Honestly, I haven't even tried it yet. the parts are still sitting in the box. :o

I actually found a situation that I'd use a "low-normal" dérailleur in: I'd actually use them in a bar end / downtube/ or friction thumb shifter setup and only so both levers go the same way. Then again I could always go with an old SunTour Spirt and have the same thing.http://bestsmileys.com/thinking/1.gif

I don't like em. I also don't like the shifting pattern (low normal or whatever its called, I push with my thumb on the bottom lever its gets easier, I like it that way)
