Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Italian Boutique Single-speeds

I just saw these in person at a local cafe/motorbike shop and they're gorgeous. Perfect commuter bike - methinks.

Coaster brake and mostly ss. Classic lines, but modern tech.

If only I had $2000 with nothing to do.

The place I saw them was very cool, I think I was dazzled by the bright lights.

I hate chain guards. Except on english 3 speeds. but they have to be english.
Chain guards on an Italian bike is like have curb feelers on a Ferrari.

It's the most hated bikes by "real" cyclist here in Italy

The frame is generic steel and the paint seems rattlecan painted, components are supercheap apart of the brook saddle

Here it costs "only" 500 euros, if the sell it in the US for 2000 USD the makers are geniuses

I think it's the perfect commuter, too...

except for the coaster brake...

and the price tag...

and the fact that they're apparently poorly made with cheap parts and generic steel.

These look like the cheapest and crappiest of the finnish-made "city" bikes. Helkama sells something like this, for about 200 EUR. Even that is too much, though.

Buy old crap bike from huuto.net (http://huuto.net/fi/cats/ajopolku.php3), replace casette with freewheel, and you have the same thing for EUR 70 tops. Plus, it'll look half decent.

I met a guy in St. Augustine who imports dutch bikes. They were seriously intense. He might have a website somewhere. They're not fixed or single, but have internal gearing and ride like heavy clouds. It's hard to explain, but they kinda rule hard.

Seem pretty bad value to me. Also, what the **** is it with Italians and Flash-heavy sites? Miche, Campag and Colnago sites take years to load...

anyway - for good example of Euro-style classic bikes that are a) sturdy b) inexpensive check out

Hey I like 'em. I tend to to be swayed by aesthetics and then make up my mind about the practicalities.

Granted they are expensive, but then most good bikes are in Australia. I must admit I was too busy being excited about the Brooks and the general look of them to notice the other components.

If there was an off the peg alternative, cheaper and better, then way cool.

And a finnish Kulkuri isn't bound to give 10 years, or 20 years of service? At half or third the price.
If you remove the marketing language from the website, those bikes are nothing special. You just got starry eyes from all the fancy words.

i could be wrong but im quite sure that was a joke, cool bikes but id by a Fietsfabriek or a dutch bike, sure they might not look as good, but they seem better built, infact i really want to get my mits on an Swedish millitary bike, guess ill have to go to sweden for that, plus does any one with a vin diesel joke in there sig have the power to declare some thing co-opted?

Yes i would, that maybe close to a swedish millitary bike, but is it one, I think not id want a real husqvarna M/42, or a m/105/111 with a Sachs hub
