We got our new Mocha, that this forum and Mel at Tandems East helped me pick and spec. Received it in Boston rode it on a nice 25 K loop out of Weston, then packed it back into the cases and it is now with our son in Spain, will not see the light of day till our trip to the basque region of Spain in July, while we go back to Buenos Aires and the trusty Trek T100. How all this tandem movements come about would require TG's 160 words per minute, and of little interest to all of you, but sufice it to say that if you want a picture I cannot deliver til then.

The Mocha rides very nice, smooth and responsive, everything works as it should. Had to get used to the responsive/twichy steering and even dropped it while starting up against a hill, could not balance it at a very slow start up speed and did not react out of the clips fast enough. I have SPD's on my single, but cages on the old tandem.

Surprised though that our Trek T100 stands up surprisigly well to the Mocha, the only two tandems we have ridden. Sure, the Mocha is several pounds less, and more efficient in shiffting and braking, but as far as frame flex, ride, and delivering horsepower to the pavement we did not feel a big diference, both are rigged with similar tires. We will keep the T100, use it on our Buenos Aires city rides and dirt road rides, and travel with the Mocha. Well, the Mocha will also go out when we go to dinner to some fancy place.....

Thanks for your help.

Xanti:
Congrats on the new Mocha!
Mel and Barb Kornbluh at Tandems East are great/knowledgeable tandem folks to deal with
The handling differences between Trek/Co-Mo are not just perception, they are quite real, as you found out on that maiden road trip.
Enjoy the ride TWOgether!

Congrats and looking forward to the pics. There is a famous racer who said "it's not about the bike". Now you know...but for sure, you have a lot of swag.

Edit: Having said that...all the riders in the peloton want the best equipment money can buy including the one who said, "it not about the bike".

Just to show you how warped I can be, I'm somehow reminded of Hans Christian Anderson's story of the Princess and the Pea (http://childhoodreading.com/Edmund_Dulac_and_Gus/Princess_and_the_Pea.html)

 Hey man...I can feel the difference as we empty and sweat away the water in our bottles. Ounce by ounce.;)
