Door County WI

Anyone know of any leisurly areas to ride in Door County WI this coming holiday weekend? I am going to be in Baileys Harbor but wouldn't mind riding in any of the Northern Door Communities - Fish Creek, Sister Bay, Gills Rock, Egg Harbor or Peninsula State Park.

I'd like to know too. I'll be in Egg Harbor this weekend. The lady on the phone made it sound like there are parks and trails all over.

Peninsula State Park is always a winner. I've ridden (raced actually) on Washington Island, that was neat. Take the ferry across and there were nice QUIET roads to ride. Bring some winter clothes for the boat ride though. :p

Even 42 is not to bad for a short distance if you don't mind heavy traffic.

Basically, you'll want to stay off of the two main Highways (42 & 57), but any of the roads through the center of the county should be fine. Peninsula State Park is nice as well (some Mountain Bike trails as I recall too).

As for the need for winter clothes, the forecast is for mid-50s all weekend which means that with any wind you'll need a coat ANYWHERE in Door County!

The guy I traveled with that weekend we went to Washington Island used to work in Sturgeon Bay and he was the one who advised we bring warm gear for the boat ride. Boy, was he right. We had winter hats, gloves, big jackets ... and the racers from California were shivvvvvvvering in their Tshirts and shorts. Mind you, this was MID-JULY ! and when we got back to the peninsula it was 90+ degrees again. :p
