I just bought myself a bike (Kona Caldera). I haven't rode or worked on a bike since highschool, 10 years!!

Can anyone suggest a good book for maintainence and repairs. I don't have access to my LBS for weeks at a time while I am at work. If something happens while I am out of town I don't want to be stuck without my bike.

Park Tools has a book that is better than Zinn & the Art of Bicycle Maintenance.

Haven't read the park tools one, but I think Zinn is really nice.

If you can, get both of them. Zinn is actually readable...

Maybe this is a sign that you need 2 bikes :D

To answer your question... I borrowed Zinn's book from the library. Pretty good, but after reading a bit of it for 2 weeks I didn't feel like buying it.

I vastly prefer Zinn's over the Park book. I also like Bicycling Magazine's book. I own all three, and it's nice to be able to consult multiple sources if there's something I don't quite get. If I had to choose one, though, it would definitely be the Zinn book.

1+ on those two websites. Better than any books in my experience. 1) They're free, 2) you'll know they'll never be out of date (which is important for mountain bikes), and 3) they always have good color pictures.

I like to have a book there on hand or at least a print out if it's something I haven't done before.
