brunop, I've read other forums regarding living after gas prices makes it too much of a burden to drive.

People will gladly take an improved public transit infrastructure before before they have to walk or ride a bicycle. That's just the way most of us are (not us in the living car-free forum here on bikeforums, of course :D ). I don't think there's anything wrong with that if we can set up a good public transit system like what they have in some parts of Europe.

I'll ride my bike through 5 ft. of snow, in -30 degree weather during the next ice age, before I ride public transportation.

Well, the article is about transit, so I am not surprised that they don't include bikes.

The problem with transit projects, is that operating costs are usually very visible, and capital costs are usually amortized and added in, to make the operating cost seem even higher, this is so car proponents have some good ammunition, for scuttling such projects. Public road and highway projects, especially car-centric ones often have capital costs hidden in various budgets, and operating costs buried so well, that a mobsters accountant would be envious. This is so car opponents have no ammunition to fight back with.
