View Full Version : Is this normal?

I got out of the shower, and the inside of my eye was hurting ALOT. Like I could barely open my eye. I blotted my eye, and there was blood all over the tissue, when I looked in the mirror, the eye was all blood shot. I rinsed it out and blotted up all the blood, and now it looks pretty normal. Wtf was that? Am I dying? Is my eye going to pop out and/or implode?

No, generally, bleeding profusely from one's eye is not normal.

What is it? I don't know, aside from icky. Broken blood vessel or something maybe? I'd at least call a doctor about it.

I would go to your doctor or optometrist. To answer your question: That does not sound normal. I'm with x136, you might have broken a blood vessel in your eye or scratched something. In the past couple of days have you gotten punched in the eye, had something hit your face, or anything like that?

It just feels like someone scratched my eyeball. The bleeding was only for a second. I think it's ok now. Other than the eye hurting of course.

You should go see an optometrist or doctor; if you accidentally scratched your eye, you want to make sure to keep icky things like infections and scar tissue at bay.

what kind of neighborhood do you live in?

maybe you got hit by a stray bullet and didn't notice. could happen...

i'm with them - go get that checked out before anything gets infected.

Well I don't have the money for an emergency room visit or anything. I just had this weird urge to itch my eye, when I looked in the mirrow there was a thin layer of red on the left white part of my right eye. Just really random. For now I'll rinse it out and see how it feels, if there's anymore problems I'll have to do something.

Try walking the streets of the west side of Chicago then you'll see some tough streets.

A broken blood vessel will not bleed out (leaving blood on a tissue). Sounds like you might have scratched your eye lid some how.

Didn't anyone tell you that looking at too much pr0n would do that to you?

Not necessarily an emergency room visit. Just call your optometrist (on second thought, that's probably a better idea than a general doctor). Even if you did just get a piece of crud in your eye and scratched your eyeball, can you imagine your eyeball getting infected? Blech!

Your ability to pay does not preclude your visiting an ER! Go immediately. Your sight is precious and you need to get it looked at now!

It may well be nothing to worry about but you have no way of knowing until a doctor rules out serious problems!

GO NOW! PLEASE!!!!!!

Don't be silly. No ER doctor will laugh at something potentially serious. I generally go to the ER, as they are usually required to treat you regardless of insurance status.

I suppose you would go to a proctologist for your allergies? Get real. He obviously doesn't have a life threatening situation here. Eye doctors treat eyes. Besides he isn't going to the ER, because he doesn't have the money, or so he said. So i suggested he go to the Eye doc, where it will be cheaper and also the proper practioner for the job.

Your analogy of proctologists and allergies is a false one.
The ER doctor should be skilled in dealing with different emergencies dealing with all parts of the body. And they are particularly aware of infection prevention. In a previous post I do, in fact, suggest that he go to an eye doctor. But an eye doctor is MORE expensive, and he said he can't afford medical services.

You mean that when you're bleeding your first reaction is to post on foo rather then seeking appropriate medical advice, or at very least asking someone in the same room who can look at your eye?

My wife who is an ER nurse just came in the door and I ran it by her. ER or Opthomologist immediately. At the ER a condition can be stabilsed. A consult with an Opthamologist would be arranged. We can discuss all we want but medical attention is required....NOW!!!

Oh, they certainly ARRRRRe, but I think having two fully-functioning eyes slightly beats out eye patches.

It wasn't even dark red, more like a pinkish color. I wiped it out, no big deal, my eye finally stopped hurting. It was really random and freaked me out for a sec, but now it's cool my eye doesn't hurt anymore. Thanks for the suggestions, if it had progressed I definitely would have gone to the Dr.
