Hey guys I just got my first bike jersey and bibs from aerotechdesigns.com Just a couple of questions as I am not sure how they are suppose to fit. Ill ask here because I am sure that fitment is different for bigger guys.

Ok. I am 6' 1/4" 235lbs. For jeans I wear a 40" waist. If they run small a 42" waist.

I bought an XL Bibshort. Says it fits waist 38" - 40". I plan on losing weight too. Anyway I put them on. They seem good. The straps are snug. Not so tight they have no more stretch but not loose. I can pull them 3 inches above my shoulders before they run out of stretch. Is that to little? Should they be looser? The short length is good as it goes right to above my kneecap. How is the chamois supposed to feel? I feel fine in the front. If just standing or walking around I can feel it in the back. (my buttcrack). Not uncomfortable at all but its there. Is that normal? takes getting used to? I rode around my block real fast to see. On the bike they are comfortable.

The jersey. How tight are the sleeves supposed to be? How form fitting should it be around your waist? I might go one size up on the jersey as it feels a little tight.

I am young (20 years old) so I guess I am used to baggy clothing and the tight cycling clothing is just different to me.

Any input on how its supposed to fit would be great. Thanks

Tight = aerodynamic, hence we wear tight clothing. Even if you decide to go to a larger size, keep the tighter one, because you'll use it soon enough!

My old jersey from Aerotech is now too big

Here's when it fit a bit better as well as when I started this whole process

I'd say shirts you can wear to your preference.

My experience with shorts is that if they don't fit well, that'll lead to serious pain in the Azz, literally. I used to wear 2XL shorts, and they still seem to fit nice and snug, even after losing a lot of weight. However, they're now so painful to ride in, I can't wear them on rides > 20 miles anymore. I bought 2 new pair in XL, and I can wear those all day.

Unfortunately, I think sizing is personal as different brands have different cuts that fit people better and worse.

As far as bibs, you should feel them on your back a little as your standing erect as that means they're made to fit riders in riding position.

For me, aerodynamics take a back seat to comfort and to feeling confident in my appearance. In my experience, most bike jerseys are cut too tight for my own comfort. I have a couple of Pearl Izumi and Cannondale that were clearly identified as being a looser cut, and I like those. But since I usually find that I don't really need the rear pockets on jerseys, I tend to wear any kind of wicking t-shirt rather than worry about wearing an authentic bike jersey.
