Isn't the International Pie Ride coming up soon? Does anyone know what day we're having it this year?

"Participants eat blueberry (if available) pie (or seasonal pie) in a cafe' (or the closest thing they can find to a cafe') on the 3rd Saturday in September in the middle of a bicycle ride of at least 15 miles."

This must be done to perfection, like the Japanese Tea Ceremony, so it's best to practice a lot between now and September.

Hmmmm....not a good idea for someone trying to lose a little weight. Guess I'll have to wait until September and take my chances:rolleyes:

What's the best way to train for such an event?

Why that's easy. You must check out every cafe within bicycling range of your home, sample and rate their product. Only the very finest is acceptable for the actual event.

That reminds me. What pie rack would you folks recommend for the bike? Is AL okay, or should I go steel or CF or Ti?
Seems like a Ti Pie rack would be the best OCP-wise, but what do I know? :D

It does depend on how far you are going to ride- The longer the ride and the stronger the rack has to be. I am afraid that CF and Ti are out though. They may get contaminated by the Pie juice on a long ride and hate to say it but the acidic content of a shop bought pie will make them deteriorate too quickly.
What am I saying?- The length of your rides at present and a paper bag tied onto the bars with string will probably suffice.
The idea of the pie ride though is that you take a 15 mile ride and stop at a cafe for pie- It is either find a cafe or get the Chauffeur to bring the pie out to you. So no need for a specific pie rack

Digital, Digital, Digital. Must you keep revealing your newby status?
The BF approved method is to ride no handed holding the pie in one hand and and your fork in the other. Americans carry the pie in their left hand while the Europeans hold their fork left handed. Hard to tell about the Brits. They speak American, like we do, but they're sometimes considered part of Europe. They also have this thing about left being right so who knows?

Would a Debbie's apple turnover bought at the Knight's Ferry General Store and Bait 'n' Tackle be acceptable?

Not unless the actual given name on your birth certificate is "Bubba".

Those are the official rules as decided by the forum last year and posted on the Rogue's Gallery pie page. (http://members.aol.com/bfn50gallery/tradition.htm)

Thanks DFox. I missed that on the earlier post, guess I read it too fast. That's a long time to wait for pie. Maybe I'll get with JPPE and we'll have an earlier pie day in North Carolina.
EDIT: Maybe we'll have "Pie Qualification Series"

Just go to a fitness site and calculate that you're riding off more calories than you consume.:D

If you have to ask ask about the pie ride- then I would get some practice in "Before" the qualification series. Good idea to get a bit of training with an experienced pie rider, but in your case -I might even think of some training before the training rides.
These pie rides can be tough- especially if you have not done one before.
