Wondering if 36 spokes is better than 32. Running a 52x16 6'2" 178 lbs?

178 is on the border, go 36 if there are lots of potholes. And gear down for the love of god, that's like a track gear.

I'm at your size and weight, but most folks here would say I'm crazy for running what I do...

28hole 2x rear and 28hole radial front.

but they're spinning true, so whatever. If they ever go far enough out, I'll re-lace the rear to be 3x drive, 2x non.

heck, I'm 210 and run 20/24 on a roadie, it's just a matter of how much flop you can deal with, unless a pothole really sneaks up on you or something.

165 pounds, was running 28 front and back (radial and 3x) for a while. Now running 20 front and back (radial and 2x). I'm not too nice to my wheels either... But I'm an idiot, so it doesn't really count.

180 and have 32f, 36r(3x). def needed for streets of NYC. so what if it's a lil heavy, its better to be on the beefy side instead of slim when that pothole comes up to say "Hi"

185lbs, more with clothing and bag. I have been running 32 spokes for two years with no problems at all.

I have 64 spokes on my fixie. Why was that not an option on the poll?

I ride 36 2x on my fixie, 150 lbs. I could be running 32 no problem. However when it comes to bunny hopping, I'd rather have more spokes since I can flex a 28 no problem.

Solid wheels are the best-est.
Hope that helps.

36 3x FTW!

I'm 6'5", 220 lbs. My fixed wheels are 32 spoke 3X front and rear. Formula hubs and alex rims. I've trued them about a half dozen times in close to five years.

Getting new wheels built with White ENO and Aeroheads - 36 spoke, 3x front and rear.

I run 32/32, but I'm only 130lbs. If I wanted NJS though I would run 36/36, despite probably not really needing the extra strength.

6 feet, 200 lbs, running 28 front and 32 rear, but on deep Vs. on a different rim I probably would have gone higher.

Twenty-four in front and 28 in back totals 52 spokes.

I weigh 235 all up, and after a 5,000 mile year my wheels remain round and tight.

Not really, but I wish, how I wish.

I don't understand why people run such low spoke count wheels (16-24 spoke), they make the rim stronger but in the process make it heavier.

as far as rims you'd have to get something non-track, but you could ask phil wood to make you a pair of 48 hole track hubs and they would probably oblige. why do you want so many spokes, going for that low-rider look or something?

Alright lightweights I'm 241 pounds today and run 32/32, 3x rear 1x front. Only way I pull this off is with strong components> dt swiss thick spokes, velocity deep v and phil hubs. IMO it's not the spoke count that matters, hand built wheels and good rims can take a heavy load (like me!)

My next wheelset will be 32f/36r i think. There's really no reason for lower spoke counts on a daily rider given my size (175 lbs).

32 front & rear, 3x. I'm 195 pounds and the wheels are solid, but I built them myself and they're tensioned properly. The roads I ride on are pretty smooth, too. I'm seriously thinking 28 f&r for the IRO group buy frame I'll be building up, but I'm also planning on losing more weight. (Nothing for weight loss motivation like broken spokes, right?)

My scaper bike will be 48 on each wheel....
