Well today i crashed my new shiny Road bike, strange thing is, i actually enjoyed it, i was actually waiting for the day when i would have my first real slam, heres what happened.

I used the road bike to get to work, as its faster, and my MTB was in the LBS getting repaired before it is sold. I didnt have my clipless shoes on, so i was using my heavy black shoes, they dont grip to well on the tiny pedals. I was sprinting, and my foot slipped, my nuts hit the top bar, my face went into the handlebars, and my feet were trailing along behind me, kinda supermans flying pose. the front was snaking about wildly, i tried to control it but dropped the bike, i cant remember actually what happened, i think i endoed, and then the bike went over me and landed right beside me, i got up SO fast, picked up the bike and ran to the pavement, as i was lying face down in the middle of a main road :D . I think i did pretty well, but i bent my right hood, and ruined my work trousers (road burns).Im fine, and most importantly the bikes fine, i was lucky i didnt smack my head, as i went down with my arms outstretched, and i wasnt wearing my helmet. The bikes fine, but i realise i actually NEED a commuter/MTB, its not practical using a race bike for work. Plus i am now friends with a guy i met on tour, who lives close, and owns a Giant XtC Team HT which he uses for mountain trails, he must be pretty good, as he snapped a GT DS frame in two :D and i would love to get into this kinda stuff.

My friend has an unused Dyna Tech Titanium bicycle, which is really really nice and really really light, full rigid, its probably the type i would like to work for some time perfecting, but i thought i could snap it up and add parts as i go along, maybe next season start XC racing. Does anyone know anything about this company, they seem high quality, as the bike cost $1500 new about 10 years back. Im thinking i could have it for about 300quid, not to shoddy. Do you think i should take the plunge?

Thanks for the help.

Are you saying the frame is at least 10 years old then? If so then $300 is too much for a frame that old. Even though it is Ti.

Its a complete bike like, but i will have a look, take it into the LBS and see what they think is a good offer.

Even stil if the bike is 10 years old the components are obsolete. Chances are you cannot get modern tech. to completely dial in on it. Therefore you would be stuck with the best you can do for it if it ever needs parts.

i don't know... not that much has changed, i mean derailleurs, shifters, headsets, brakes all pretty much stayed the same.

How many speeds is it? IOW, how many cogs on the cassette? If it's only 6 or 7, your rear end spacing isn't wide enough to handle a 9 speed conversion. That's about the only issue concerning an older frame. Sure, you can still get older 7 speed stuff, but not anything of decent quality.

Hmm, thought about that, and i suppose it wouldnt have and disc mounts, ill call round with the guy tomorrow as its my day off, and have a good look at it, worst comes to worst, itll come in handy as a beater.

I had a look on the net for this brand, i think they make car parts, is this company an actual bike manufacturer? Ive only ever seen two Dyna Techs, im thinking these might be like those Kawasaki bicycles we saw a while back. Cheap knock offs

Is it a Raleigh Dyna Tech. This was a high quality frame with Ti tubes bonded to lugs with glue, not welded.
