went there for the first time today, started at jericho parking lot and went south....this place looks like it has the poison ivy plague..what the hell is going on in there.
I rode for about 5 minutes and turned around. Went north instead...nothing really up there.

Psh, there's nothing anywhere on Long Island. The only I have going on there for me is family and friends.

Psh, there's nothing anywhere on Long Island...Try the new trail that opened in Queens (LI!) today. Not too shabby. Or go out to Glacier Ridge, or even Rocky Point.

As for the OP, you are right, south of Jericho is not great, but it gets better as you get farther south.

Did you get up to the Stillwell loop when you went north?

no i really didnt go that far....just did a little exploring and then left.

Next time try starting directly in the Stillwell preserve parking lot on South Woods road. Skips the lollipop stick part and you will not find it boring at all.

no actually i enjoyed the northern part of the greenbelt. The south was horrible with all the ivy though.
Im gonna go back soon and start from jericho and go to stillwell from there. I was just tired that day and just wanted to see how it was.

The poison ivy comes and goes, it all depends on how severe the winters generally are. With a mild winter then the ivy gets a chance to flourish. It isn't everywhere along the southern part of the Greenbelt.

Considering that you can ride the Greenbelt from Massapequa to the Long Island Sound you can't know it if you don't know it. It's a pretty decent trail and makes for a nice ride.

If you want more difficult riding then hit Stillwell Woods, Rocky Point or Cathedral Pines

yeah i just really reallyhate that stuff with a passion....i rode in there for about 5-10 minutes and just didnt wanna bother anymore. It was like i couldnt concentrate on riding because i was to busy trying to squeeze through the foliage without touching any of it.

I went north today and rode to stillwell and back.
How do i continue the greenbelt north to the shore. When i was in stillwell i got to the spot where the yellow signs says right to continue stillwell and to the left is jericho parking lot. I couldnt figure out how to keep going north.

I last rode the entire trail several years ago. I was in Stillwell on Saturday and just did the loop with a friend, we both took some wrong turns and messed up. It has been years since I was there, but it's still as good as I remember.

Did you cross under the railroad tracks? Did you ride the Stillwell loop?

I recommend coming up to the South Woods parking lot and starting from there. It will all become clear.

i started from the parking lot on jericho. i went north, towards stillwell, i did go under the tressel, and then made it into stillwell.
Now when i got to a certain point in stillwell there was the sign that leads you back to the rt25 lot, or you can continue stillwell loop. I went back to the lot cause that where i parked.

Im wondering though is there anything else north of stillwell. Is there a way to ride trails literally to the north shore.

Got it. I think you saw it all, for the most part (there are lots of trail offshoots). There is the family trail and the more advanced trail.

There is a trail that heads out of Stillwell and leads up to and ends in Cold Spring Harbor, but it is hiking only.

If Stillwell wasn't enough, definitely try Cunningham - the back (west) section and definitely try Glacier Ridge.
