so that's your story....heat? So as I see it Brandy beat you 3 out of 3 KOM events.
Actually, don't feel bad she was dropping me all day yesterday. I felt like ***** but even when I recovered I would see her in the distance and I couldn't close the gap. It would take an awful lot of effort and I would fade again. She is riding really well and I am so proud of her. I think her time was 7:15.
hehe, actually i was sick had a fever and massive sore throat that i had gotten 2 days before.
she does pretty well :)
my only excuse is she's been riding longer than me... and she's got you pushing her ;)

Last year I did Heartbreak Double with a very bad chest cold. The only reason I did it was so I could finish the KOM series. I suffered all day in the low 30 degree temps and headwinds. I was then down for almost a week with just enough energy to go to work and back home to bed. I hope you don't feel that bad but good on ya for finishing the series.

 The first 75 miles we okay for me. Then the heat took its toll. About mile 75 I had to stop every 20 minutes or so and pour water on my head to keep from getting heat stroke. I almost passed out a couple of times. At the stop in Ventucopa there was no ice so, lukewarm soda's and tepid sandwiches were on the menu, I passed and stuck with heed and cliff shots. It was a grind up to Heartbreak. I didn't start to recover from the heat until after Lebec, about 5:30.
I guess I'm just not a warm weather cyclist.
Congrats to all who finished

Hey Caligurl, never got to thank you for that "Don't use armwarmers advice". I was basing the weather from last year's heartbreak (cold and windy) and am glad I dressed down for this year.

I finished the final leg of the KOM series, but barely...
I suffered Heat exhaustion around mile 80 or so...
Actually I was feeling it on Heartbreak hill, At Bills rest stop CP3 I dumped a TON of water over my head.
About 4 miles later, I could barely pedal, My heartrate dropped VERY low, I got chills and I was shaking, but was sweating @ the same time!!
I pulled over and sat on the side of the road for 30 minutes, crying, sick, and trying to feel better.
Tony and my friend Laura stopped with me. Sag came up and stopped for a bit, I drank 4 bottles of water very quickly. After about 30 minutes of sitting and crying on the side of the road, I was back on the bike, not sure how I made it, It probably wasn't the best thing for me to do, but I had to..I came this far and I wasn't going to quit. I finished the ride, barely but none the less finished.
IF I do the series next year, it will be for time. This year I am just glad I finished all three rides!

Yes, but you rode and did your best, George. For many riders on here, I included, it is inspiring enough to watch our fellow riders attempt these difficult rides. I don't speak for anyone but myself when I say this - regardless of time or what place people finish in (something I'm just not that concerned with), you and the others did a great job finishing KOM. After watching all of you and reading about the rides, I'm excited now to suffer myself next year. ;) :D

wait... did i just hear you do a commitment for KOM next year?
As you all know, I don't do doubles for fun. I do them to compete and challenge myself and now I have to please some sponsors. So yes I beat myself when I spend time off the bike at aid stations.
I applaude everyone that finished the KOM series.

What?! No! No, no, no...I committed to nothing. And I hid the body in the desert. :D Yeah, I'm "thinking" about it. But, as you know, I'll be lolly-gagging around the aid stations hitting on strange men, taking pictures of stray animals and applying lip gloss. We all compete in our own ways, George. ;):p
Mary if you can drink 100 beers iwth me I will dub you the KOM.
but you have to start practicing now...How does Guiness sound to you? I will bring a whole keg, I'll consider that 100, once you down it I'll give you a kick ass hat and jersey.

#1 - I misread your first sentences as "...iwth me I will Rub you the KOM." That would carry a whole new meaning.
and; #2 I want a kick ass bib please and no, not Guiness as it is very fattening and you are trying to lose weight.

Guiness only has 120 calories, its the best out of most of the beers out there!!! And not to mention it has an awesome taste.
#1 dont get it lol
#2 kicking ass can only be accomplished by drinking and practicing early!
#3 winning is all relative. I could philosophically debate on how I won the KOM without even riding. This conversation, unfortunately, must be saved for a oral coversation.
#4 Brandy is cheating on me.
