The Jamis Coda line of bikes are very good bikes for the money.

Do you know what size you need and how to put together and adjust the bike once you receive it?

Lets pull it to bits- Jamis coda's are a respectable bike with a good following of riders that are happy with the Bike. The only drawback is that it is the low spec of a typical $750 bike. It has a suspension post that should be ditched so expense on a new post. Apart from that- does the 21 1/2" frame fit you and is the colour right.

Fits you and you need a good cheap bike- Buy it.

Unless you are a somewhat competent bike mechanic and have a the appropriate tools, you will need to pay your LBS $50-$100 to perform final assembly and tune-up. Figure that into your final cost.

The only thing I have to do is install the front tire, pedals, seat & handlebar. The only tool I will need is an allen key so no LBS needed.:D

There you are quite wrong. The deraillures will need to be adjusted, the wheels might need to be trued, and the whole bike should be gone over to make sure all is in working order and that there was no damage durring shipping.

I have no idea about the company which told you this, but if I were you I would be prepared to get the bike tuned up.

Out of all the bikes I have ever assembled- and that includes wally-Mart bikes aswell- I have only ever had trouble and extra work with one of them. It looked as though the box had been kicked around the warehouse so I contacted the shop and they sent me another one-without collecting the Old one so even that bike had plenty of spares for when it went wrong.

There will be a warranty with a Jamis bike that will be honoured by a local shop- just in case anything does go wrong with the bike within the warranty period. As to wheels being out of true- or Derraillers out of adjustment, this is not an often occurence. Lining up brake blocks and a little bit of assembly that has to be done right is the most that I have ever had to do.

If you have ever had to adjust brake blocks or do even minor adjustments on a bike- then you are OK. If that is beyond your capabilities- then get your dad to assemble it for you.

I have direct experience with bicycle blowouts. I bought a KHS tandem from them at a great price. While the bike arrived as advertised (OK, they forgot to send the pedals but one phone call solved that), It most certainly required some post-assembly tuning. Because of the good price that I got, I fully expected that this would be the case. The wheels needed to be retensioned and trued and the brakes and derailleurs needed adjustment.

Even if the bike is =perfect= out of the box, things usually need to be adjusted within a month of purchase due to things like cables seating. Bike shops provide this service on bikes they sell for free. You will have to do this yourself or pay your LBS.

Don't get me wrong, as a satisfied customer I consider Bicycle Blowouts to be a reputable company offering fair deals, but you must understand that you will not get the same level of service and support as you do at an LBS.

man, that's the same bike I have :)
I bought mine used, however, from Piermont bike in NY.
Quite happy with it and it's responsible for getting me hooked and have bought a road bike since then.
It's a decent bike and use it to tow a 2-child trailer :)

Now, if only I had been able to get it new :)
