Glove Suggestions???

I got tangled up at the local velodrome last week and went down pretty hard at about 25MPH. I survived the crash with just some scrapes in about 4 different places, bruises, and a sprained shoulder. I was wearing full finger road gloves that basically got shredded in the wreck. They seemed to tear up much easier than my kit which sustained hardly no damage. What kind of gloves are out there that can possibly hold up and protect my hands in a crash? I don't mind paying extra money for extra protection.

Try and find the gloves that keirin racers use. They are full fingered and have carbon fiber knuckles. I know Brooklyn Machine Works makes a similar pair of gloves for DH riding.

There are keirin gloves available but these tend to be v expensive eg

The other option is to wear long fingered mtb type gloves. These are well made and tend to be much cheaper than keirin gloves. Oakley, specialised, Sixsixone etc all make them. The oakley ones are popular at my home track in London eg

Try and get ones without too much padding / ge; etc on the inside. After similar experiences to yours I would recommend wearing protective long fingered gloves on the track.

Thanks guys!!! I never thought of trying some DH or MTB gloves. They will probably be way more durable than the road cycling gloves that I was wearing. Is the the best way to find prices on Business Cycles is to call them? I notice they carry some great track gear but navigating their site is a bit of a pain.

On the track you really want gloves that have very good grip. Since you hopefully can hold onto your bars, you'd like some padding on the back of the knuckles, but otherwise don't need much.

The Tanabe keirin gloves are actually batting gloves sold in pairs -- batters have the same problems we do if they get hit in the knuckles by an errant ball, and they need grip on the bat as well. So check out batting gloves, which are priced a lot less than keirin gloves. If you trash a pair, at least they've served you well and aren't expensive to replace. Another option is football linebacker gloves -- these are made to be very grippy and don't have a lot of superfluous padding. There are also riders who can't find gloves of these types to fit them and use golfing gloves -- the Meares sisters frequently use them, for example. I'd recommend any of these alternatives -- whatever fits for you.

Nashbar, Performance, ALL fine. I prefer fingerless gloves. My hands are wider than average yet I wear mediums. Pearl Isumis are a stand-out, they feel right,while being snug ,last long and the models I've chosen have very tuff palms, not as lumpy like some other gloves . I've used the $20 to $30 ones.

Yes, baseball. Check Rawlings, for example. I actually went into a team store for a pro baseball team (where you buy all the garish t-shirts, baseball caps, etc.) and found a basket full of Tanabe batting/keirin gloves on closeout -- $15 per glove. Not bad.

I just found these on Ebay. They look like the Tanabe gloves, but at less than half the price.

I use American football receiver gloves. They're real grippy, with some padding around the knuckles but not too much.

I thought about doing that but I didn't want three pair. I'm not sure how to handle it if we find three people who want them. Would we each just send him a Paypal payment for $33 plus shipping? Would one person make the purchase then the other two people send him their money? If we can make this work I am definitely interested.

For events like the Kilo or team sprint where I just want pure grip I started using batting gloves. The under amour ones are quite nice. In sprints and Keirins I dig the fit of my Fox bomber moto gloves with carbon nuckle.
