Bicycle Mechanics - What about gun spray has lubricant?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Some dept. store folks are telling us when we look for a dry lub for our bicycles...just use the dry gun spray lub.I did use it and found it similar to wd-40,I wasn't happy using gun spray has a lub.
I guess the reason some of us post like this is because of our locations...It is harder to get this dry wax lub which we so desire?
There are lots of different gun lubes, and I would be very careful about using them on bikes. Gun lubes are trying to do a number of things. First they are trying to remove residues from powder and primer, second they are often trying to remove copper and third they are trying to reduce corrosion. Guns are most often used in cold weather, and their owners have to worry about "sweating" when cold metal is brought into a warm humid room. Stick to bike products for bikes, and shop online if you con't find a LBS.
Most gun sprays are protectants, not lubricants. And if it were a lubricant, it's feature have to be different to meet the unique needs of firearms.
That said, the best lube I have found for bikes also works very well for firemarms, marine and aviation. Boeshield T-9 is a great chainlube. I also use it on the derailluer pivots, inside shifters and on the cables. Most anything that moves. http://www.boeshield.com/index.htm
