View Full Version : Recommendation for organic/natural restaurants in LA area?
I try my best of avoid all of the chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, additives, preservatives, artificial anything) in the food I eat and shop at Whole Foods Markets. However, most restaurants still cook their foods with MSG, trans-fats, etc. and most likely use GMO crops and meats from cattle & chicken that have been injected with steroids, growth hormones, and other chemicals. Yuck!
Do you guys have recommendations for any organic/natural restaurants in the LA area?

If you're on the westside:
A Votre Sante in Brentwood:

I was there on Friday, very good food!

If you're out in the SFV, I recommend Follow Your Heart in Canoga Park. No meat, though - strictly vegan.

Also in the San Fernando Valley in Encino (and Brentwood I'm told) the Corral Tree Cafe. Excellent pasta, salads, and sandwiches.
There's also Z Pizza in Woodland Hills. It isn't that great, but it's organic. And hey, pizza is like sex: Even when it's bad it's still pretty good.

I know it's a bit of a drive but if you get out to Ventura or Santa Barbara counties, there's The Natural Cafe. They have several locations - Westlake Village being the closest to LA.

Urth Cafe. Locations in Bev Hill, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood.
Urth Cafe (http://www.urthcaffe.com/locations.html)
Clientele can be annoying, but food and coffee are solid.

Axe Restaurant, Venice (Abbot Kinney)
Axe Restaurant (http://www.axerestaurant.com/)
Bit o' the trendy thing going on here, but within reason.
---
Tender Greens, Culver City
Tender Greens (http://tendergreensfood.com/)
Highy recommended.

Real Food Daily, Santa Monica

To my tastes, they sacrifice too much, flavor-wise, in the interests of "health", but I know others who love the place.
And ditto vc_rider's reccy for The Natural Cafe. Wish they'd open a branch in my area.

Hugo's, on Riverside near the corner of Coldwater Canyon in Sherman Oaks. The service can be a bit slow, but the food is very good. And the Inn of the 7th Ray on Old Topanga near the corner of Topanga Cyn. Ask for a table near the creek; you might get some wildlife sightings. We say a coyote wandering by the water. Food's good, but it's pricier.

How the hell do you guys know of all of these places? I've been looking for similar restaurants in my area with no luck. Do you just google organic restaurants or something?

Hugo's food kicks ass. It's about the only thing remotely trendy near Sherman Oaks, so a) it's too pricey, and b) all the celebrities (by SFV standards :p ) hang there.
go to MACdonalds...They're organic

I'm with Vance - Hugo's is great. There is a raw restaurant here in Sherman Oaks, too, called Leaf. It's an acquired taste, but I do from time to time eat there. There is also a fast food place in Pasadena/Arcadia, but the name alludes me. It is all vegetarian and I think organic. Oh, and Sharky's Mexican restuarant on Burbank uses organic beans and rice (perhaps other stuff too).

My wife found a list of organic eateries in a magazine. She reads a lot, and that includes books and magazines on fertility, green products, birth, health, etc. Google can work, too, but the magazines are more current.
I forgot about the 7th Ray. Haven't been there, but my wife and I plan to try it out some time.
Is tommy's on the organic list? CAuse I LOVE THAT PLACE
