Before I forget, I took a ScotchBrite Pad to my rims to get the crud off of them and then took a single cut bastard file to the pads. Funny how quickly slowing excess weight scums up your rims. Then I thought...I got out my cordless dremel, put on a polishing pad, moistened it, put on some Tom's toothpaste ( I like the peppermint stuff ) and gave 'em the once over. Rinsed but didn't spit. Took 'er for a spin. Miraculous! No noise at all. I'm pleased.

Forgot to mention that. Smooth as a baby's bum. Gotta get some Kool Stop pads, luckily they do have them at my lbs.

Cool, and another way is to use isopropyl alcohol to cut the rubber residue on your rims.

Yeah, I use the high-concentration stuff you get in the big 1qt bottles. It works like a charm for cleaning all kinds of gunk.

You also don't need to worry about polishing the machined surface of a machined alloy rim too smooth this way either, which is a risk using the polishing wheel on a dremel (they are impregnated with jewelers rouge).

These polishing wheels were clean, no rouge. I posted in the mech. forum and you can read there that some old wrench almost had a heart attack knowing someone used toothpaste on the rim and didn't adequately clean off the residue.

I thoroughly rinsed it and 'bout dry polished it with a dry shop rag...no residue...looked damn nice too :)

Gotta get some sleep, weather looks nice :) up early and try to increase my miles, not going to the trail either, just around here...HILLS....................

The 'Trail Of Ill Repute' made a lasting impression on me Tom, I will never forget :)

What's the difference between standard anodized aluminum rims & ceramic rims? I've heard that I need special brake shoes for the ceramic rims. True?

Thanks!

The ceramic rims are the same as the standard rims except for the ceramic coating. The coating provides a higher cf braking surface, for improved braking particularly in the wet. It's the carbon fiber rims that require special pads.

Cheers
