I'm going to start.
Fender Starcaster (cheapo Target Fender, it's really a Squier Affinity Strat), that I modded the hell out of. It's got 12k bridge, 10k middle/neck rail pickups, 500k pots, upgraded switch...I modified the stock jack for better contact, resoldered everything, loctited the nuts on the tuners, Installed Straplocks, roller bearing string trees. It's got Fender 250L strings (set of 9s). Oh, and it's got chromed knobs with simulated mother of pearl inlay (I HAD to pimp it out, the voices wouldn't accept no for an answer). Whammy bar is not installed since I was doing some cosmetic work on it that day.
Pignose Portable and Squier SA-10 amps. The pignose is an awesome amp....I love that thing (but amusingly I need the other one for a proper metal sound)!
Danelectro FAB effect pedals (OD and Distortion).

Here are some of mine. Carvin ,Gibson, Fender, G&L, Tacoma, Warmoth and some hand made Tube amps. Wife thinks I got 2 guitars and 2 amps. Then again she thinks, I think she has only 10 pair of shoes:rolleyes:

Catatonic, why on Earth would you invest that kinda money in modding the department store strat? I am sure it was fun though. I can bet cost was not an issue, or else you could have had a nice American Standard or a suped-up Asian model for that $.

I have to +1 this. From an economic stand point you have to sell the beater and trade up. Modding a guitar is always a lose-lose situation.
The one exception would be upgrading the Volume pots on a Les Paul Studio or Standard to real 500k pots. Thats normalizing a "de-engineered" guitar.

If it was an Ibanez Strat, those are not like my Fender...those are "Super Strats", the neck is thinner, the fingerboard is flatter, and the differnces go on and on.....normal Strats are far easier to play.

It still costs less than a Mexi-strat by over a hundred bucks.
I have around $150 in parts tied up in it (decent parts are cheap if you know where to look)...plus you can't get rail pickups stock in any Strat to my knowledge, and Fender insists on 250k pots...that is unless I want to go to their custom shop and drop huge bucks.
Plus learning how to do all that work myself was worth the cash. In the end I now have a strat that's suitable for blues, hard rock and metal (oh, and no 60hz hum at all). Very nice tone to it, and the bridge pickup...wow, it quacks in a seriously mean way.
Two of my acoustics. First is a Stratocoustic, custom made by luthier John Calkin (http://www.jcalkinguitars.com/). Second is a sweet National flat top, non-resonator. Both scored at local auctions.

"Man, have we seen some disagreements this week, brother.... "
ha ha ...its all good !
It a 'Me' problem.....
I bought a Flying V that they were already installed in
and made a mistake. My favorite tone is 70's AC/DC so
the EMG's overamped a little. If I was going Man-0-war / Ross the Boss
Its all Id have :D
Catching up ?? Nah.....You passed me in 1980, Im sure :roflmao:

Whas wrong with EMG's?
My *personal* experience with EMGs from many years ago was that they were very hot (active circuitry), but they lacked tone. At least to my ear. Things may have changed. But, they are still high end (or they were then), so it's kinda like debating that Mercedes suck in comparison to BM'rs...all relative.
However, this reminds me of one of my favorite axes of all time, which is now long gone. A white Gibson Wayne Charvel model with Floyd Rose tremolo and EMG pickups -- only 200 made. Here's my story, sad but true. I had just jammed with some guys that nite. They were friends of a friend, but nobody I had personally developed a trust for. They were actually joking that nite about staging a break-in at their apartment to collect some insurance. Well, later that nite I went roller blading and broke my wrist. If that wasn't bad enough, I had put this limited edition Gibson in the trunk of my sister's car, after she had rescued me and taken me to the ER that nite. Well, next morning someone had busted into the car and stole that guitar. I don't know WHO it was, but it seemed those guys were at least suspects.
Arghhhhh! :fight: Remembering this story just now has really pissed me off. I gotta find that guitar, even though it's about 15+ years later. I didn't even realize only 200 made until I just looked it up online. The Internet hadn't been "invented" yet when it was stolen, but now I am sure it's probably been thru ebay once or twice...), it can't be that hard to find now. Posted: $500 reward.

^^^Towlie, they only "lack tone" when you try to roll of the vol pots to change your sound.
No prob for me, I use a vol. pedal anyway. My style of metal is in the Zakk Wylde/Ozzy/Black Label school, and my pickups are reversed, just like Zakk's are.
Sounds like a train. A crazy train at that.
When I want a vintage tone, I whip out my Ibanez 335 copy....oh wait, sold that to my cousin. Damn.
Lem, in the 80's I was an teenage autistic ******* skater nerd that could barely play the solo to Shout. No contest.
A partial photo collection of my kids' and my guitars- left to right:
1984 Ibanez Roadstar II series RS-530
1970s Morris acoustic rip-off of Martin D28
1976 Guild D-25M (mahogany)
1972 or so Mann "custom telecaster" (basically a rebadged Ibanez "lawsuit" guitar).
2005 Epiphone Les Paul standard
1970s junky Japanese guitar, maybe Teisco.
We also have a Mann "stratocaster" tobacco sunburst 1970s guitar (another "lawsuit" model*), an un-named bass styled like a Fender precision bass, and a $5 dumpster-level parlor guitar.
* in the 1970s Ibanez was sued for producing exact visual replicas of Fender, Gibson and other American guitars ("lawsuit" guitars) in Japan, and had to redesign their models. Mann was an alternate brand name produced in that era in the Ibanez factory for import to Canada, so Mann guitars are essentially the same as the Ibanez "lawsuit" guitars in looking exactly like their better quality Fender or Gibson counterparts. My Ibanez Roadstar II (far left) is a post-lawsuit guitar, so it looks a little different from the big-name models.

I build the amps as a self-supporting hobby; on the left is an empty Tweed Bandmaster cabinet that I plan on building a modified Vox AC15 chassis for, the middle is a blackface Deluxe-Reverb-based head running through a 1x15 open-back cabinet. The little tweed on the right is the first amp i ever built; it started life as a Tweed Deluxe clone, but it's been tweaked and modded from the original 5E3 circuit, to other things and back again.
Some of the amps I've built that I really miss: Marhsall 18 watt clone, Marshall JTM45 circuits, Tweed Bandmaster.
Plan to add an AC30/AC15/Matchless build to the arsenal soon.:D
