Hey im wondering what spring weight i should get. Currently I have a Fox Vanilla coil 950 lb spring. Im not sure of the stroke.
I am 125 lbs and Im thinking around a 550-600 lb spring. Is this correct?
Thanks

I would think it would depend on your suspension design and specific frame due to the location of the pivots and associated mechanical advantages.

Khoun is right. It depends on your design. You best bet is to contact your shock company and answer their questions and they will spring it proper for you.

so should I call fox? Or Rocky Mountain? Its a 2001 Rocky Mountain Pipeline. Im guessing either of them would be able to help.

I would call Rocky Mountain first. The shock itself is an atomic component. Rocky Mountain designed the suspension system with a specific leverage and thus will know what kind of loading occurs at the shock mount so they would be best at determining what weight of spring is required. You can then call Fox to see if they have an appropriate one.

950lb rate is on the Very High side of the scale. Did you buy the bike new or used? If used was the person you bought it from a big guy? Without knowing anything else about the frame and it's design parameters, I'm guessing your bike is oversprung. However, it's a total WAG! Contact Rocky MTn and ask.

after looking at the frame and compressing the shock in question, id say keep the spring for a little bit, and if you decide that its too much, then deal with it. that bike has a mad short stroke for the travel so it needs a very heavy spring to supprt your weight. but basically ride it and see then.
