nice now that's a upgrade:thumb: with the right controller and bats that motor should put you in orbit:D
im holding out for ebikes.ca should be available Nov. 2008. im keeping the power in the rear with the gear.
i have a used brushed controller i used for testing that works great if your interested im asking $40 plus shipping. see pic also works great at 48v
cheers
Thanks for the offer. I'm really wanting a 72v one. If wasp wants it, that's ok. I've got more of those 36v coming from my supplier, but I'll probably wait to find a 35amp 72 volt brushed controller.
Thanks again for the offer, and if you know where to locate a 72v let me know.

no problem.
I do have one question though. What is the voltage limit of potentiometer or the little towers inside the controller? Is it 63v or 100v?
If it's higher, I'm interested, or if you know the specs to change the 63v ones I'm interested.
I'm told that to change those, you need to know the draw demands etc... which I have no clue on.
thanks
hey karma is that controller still up for grabs?
if so let me no how you want to do this.
btw i cooked one of my yw limn bats today
volts...0.368!!!if i get your controller i'll order a ca

you could replace the caps and bypass the shunt, but it would never run at 72v the controller is way to small and you would run into cooling broblems. best you could get out of it would be 60v after mod
Ok, thanks for info. Wasp wants it and it'll probably serve him better than me right now.
Hey wasp, how did you burn yw lithium, overdischarge?
Today I got the 5304 Crystallite with 36v controller and throttle. Installed it on ct bike with full suspension. At 48v that things flies...I had not speedo installed but I'm guessing 55km easy and it goes to speed fast. It's a front wheel mount so I installed the torque arm that came with it and installed a small mini torque arm on the other side.
I tried the nickel cadnium pack I just bought and so far I don't know, I'm told nickel cadnium takes a few charges to come up to speed, so it's finicky too. So I settled with the sla 48v pack to do most of my testing. Man I wish lead was lighter... It's the ideal battery, few problems, charges easily, doesn't blow up usually, it's cheap...etc... not many charge cycles but that may be solved in the future. The front wheel is heavy, about 25lbs but I prefer front, more weight distribution. It's just that the sla's were heavy at the back. I'll focus on lithim and the yw batteries I got.
Crystallite rocks. I even tried the 60v pack on the 36v controller. I didn't work but it didn't blow up the contorller. So crystallite makes them a bit more bullet proof than their cousins in china. I'm in love :p.
Can't wait for the 72v controller. Should be able to break the 65 to 70km. Makes it easier to keep up with traffic with less cars passing, hence safer me thinks.
Once I get my phoenix 5303, that thing will surely close in on the 75 to 80km range. Not that I want to travel at that speed, it's not safe, but it makes it easier to do the odd busy street safely when no sideroads are available. That's what I'm aiming for, not speeding at 70km all day...

yikes replace those front forks if there front canadian tire suspension forks. i feel a face plant coming on. even the more expensive forks cant handle the tork.go with a solid fork.

Yeah, that's what I thought about the forks, but these suckers are full metal, they're huge and seem to not even feel the torque. Mind you, I don't ever start full throttle or even close. I'll pedal first, and full once I'm doing 15 or 20km. Does it have pick up that Crystalyte...nice motors.
I'm keeping a very close watch on the forks, but don't forget, I have 2 torque arms on it.
The model is Supercycle "Hooligan". If you see them at ct, you'll see what I mean. It's all aluminum except for the forks which are steel.
I don't look forward to a face plant, so I will check them every ride and torque the nuts everyday. Otherwise, so far so good. I'll have to really watch it when I'm running it at 84volts...that'll be touchy. So far, it rides nice. But, the lead acid batteries are too heavy no matter where you put them, I do like the Nickel Cadnium and I'll run the lithim from yw once I get the 72v controller.
Which forks would you suggest to replace the original Hooligan forks with?
take care and drive safely :D (i'm taking that advice seriously)

The latest on the izips. I've had a hard time finding a brushed controller that will do 72v so I'm changing the motor on one of my izip bikes. It's a universal motor from tncscooters that works with a 60v 60-100a controller and throttle.
I'll take the motor and mount it over the back wheel and use the sprocket that the currie motor used. I'll use a 11tooth sprocket on the motor and chain drive it like the currie motor.
I figure it'll probably do well over 70km but I'll see once I get the sprockets from tnc. They had them made up for their 1000watt motors which is the one I just got in the mail.
I'll post some pics once I've set it up. I'm trying to do it as simple as possible.
:)
The Crystalyte setup is coming along, I'm getting my 72volt controller in a few days and i'll be putting the yardworks batteries to a test then. Should work out good.
The 5304 Crystalyte running at 48 volts tops out at 45km unassisted. Once i hit 72v that'll change
you can mount the motor over the rear wheel. i have tested that setup with the izip. only problem i had was a lot of the power was lost with using so much chain, and its loud. this idea may be a better way to go for you. and whats not to like about it you get a working gearbox out of it :)

just a idea.
cheers
speaking of power losses...has anyone ran one of these izip motors(or currie 1000w) thru a nexxus
multi gear hub? i wonder what kind of power losses? it would clean up the bike
and lose alot of chain and noise.
i just ordered 2 inova 268 stud 26x2.1 winter tires...i'm riding my izip all season

An update on my izip mod. At first I thought, should I post this cause there are other guys doing better things but then I thought maybe this could help one person so I'll share my modding adventures. :)
I took the controller and replaced it with a tnc 60-100amp 60v and replaced the motor with a 1000w brushed 48v motor. Today myself and a helper took the day off and mounted the motor.
After 5hrs of welding and grinding etc... the motor went on just about where the old izip sat, so it's real close to the rear sprocket. I'll post pictures once it's running properly. The one thing I forgot that became evident later is the gears the izip motor uses before the sprocket off the motor shaft. Of course, the motor I got from tnc has only the gear on the shaft...so, that made for some fuse popping time...like popcorn ...
I called tnc and the tech chris told me that the sprocket on the motor shaft being 11 tooth and the bike sprocket being 20 made it impossible to start off with the motor let alone run it, unless I had the strength to gather speeds of let's say 35mph. Well, that can't be done easily, I tried, but woah... that sucket is heavy, and after sweating bullets it's a no go. I need to have the back sprocket around 35teeth, or reduce the motor one to 5 or 6. A ratio of 1 to 3 or 4 is needed.
The way I have it setup, if I took up to 30mph, I would be able to reach 70mph on flats.
So, now it's hunting time, and boy, up here, it's not easy finding anything that's unusual.
Any ideas on the sprocket for the bike. Problem I found at the bike stores is 20 teeth is the max for a left hand side free wheeling sprocket.
That's it for now. :twitchy:
how about some pix...any of you trying to pedal 30..lol

I'll post some pics once it's running right. Taking time off work to get this thing going before snow flies. My company does snow removal, so once it snows, my time is not mine anymore.
I tried going 30mph, mans it's hard with the izip....

I got a price from Dorel for a new battery. Only 72 bucks U.S.. So I'm ordering one this week. Even though I'm totally pissed at them cuz I've ordered a throttle which was in stock and it still isn't shipped 10 days later. What a bunch of morons. And they have the nerve to tell me " We'll put an expedite on your order and have an answer for you in next couple of days. So don't order from them if in a hurry. I can't use my newly rebuilt Izip with 16 t sprocket till I get the throttle. Yeah I'd like to throttle them right in thr kisser.

I am defly going to be doing this to my bike once I get it. Do they still make the bike you guys all did this for the schwinn izip? Can it be done to Curries izip or ezip?
Is their a parts list anywhere with everything I need to do this?

You can modify the inexpensive, entry-level Currie ezips and izips. The early 36V mod is problematic because of over heating issues (it would now also require a new controller--and throttle--because Currie changed the stock controller that they put on these models). There's actually a better mod on the ezips and izips that's described in the Enless Sphere e-bike forums. It's a jump to 48V by using two motors--that reduces motor overheating issues. Clearly, you'd need to invest in a new controller and throttle as well as purchase a second motor (which can be bought at a good price from TNC Scooter) and have an additional piece mounted to the motor plate to hold the second motor. Here's photo as well as a link to the thread that discusses this mod--go to page 11. http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3249&start=150
