I recently came into possession of this Nishiki, which I am fixing up as a single speed. The owner had obviously has a little accident with it, of the derailleur-into-the-spokes type.

The derailleur (a Suntour ARX) has apparently lost its lower pulley and is a little bent at the hanger bolt. The cage is straight, though.

The wheel has one bent spoke and a dent in the dork disk. Despite the bent spoke, the wheel is pretty true.

My question is this: can I reuse the rear wheel? If so, do I need to replace the spoke?

I think the wheel is okay, though I'd replace the bent spoke. You going to try to salvage the dérailleur?

Yes and yes.

In the current condition of a bent spoke and the wheel being true, I'm pretty sure someone trued the wheel, and in order to compensate for the the bent spoke, had to create uneven tension in the spokes. Ideally, all the spokes on a side of a rear wheel should have equal tension.

Is the wheel dished and round (in addtion to lateral trueness)?

I am not planning on salvaging the derailleur. Haven't checked dish and roundness on the wheel; I've only done the rough brake pad test.

Thanks for the help!
