So I put a second charger at the office. While I still have plenty of juice when I get to the office, I often go out of my way to ride all over the place on the way home. Just last night I spent 4 hours driving around the bike trails on my way home. I just like riding so much!

Anyway, so the boss jokingly said I should re-imburse the company for the electricity I use because it's personal use. So I take 3 pennies out of my pocket and give them to him. He looks at me with a "what's this?" kind of look. Then I explain to him that it's about as much it costs to recharge the battery.

Anybody else recharge at the office?
Anybody else get the ignorant comments at the office?

You know, when I first read 3 cents, I thought, there is no way it can be that low. But, having just done some research - I think you are right - amazing.

I do it. Nobody has said anything. I don't advertise it, but I don't hide it. Heck, the electricity costs less than if they had to put in another parking space. I'm using SLA batteries right now, and they don't like being left in a partially discharged state. It's a 36v 12Ah pack. I use 2-3 Ah to get to work depending on the wind, how much I pedal, etc. It's not like it's a deep discharge, but I figure I'm extending my battery life by keeping them charged.

Well. Around here it's about 4.5 cents per kw/h. The recharge uses up about 800-900 watts. So it's something in between 3 and 4 cents.

I just low-balled the figure. I'm cheap that way. ;)

You should suggest that people reimburse the company for heating food in the staff lounge microwave or wash hands in hot water (except after going to the bathroom)

That has the potential to backfire. Some bean counter will think that's a great idea. No more hot water (just caustic soap) and no more lounge.
