We're coming into the peak months for organized charity rides. I am currently looking at making 3-4 rides in the next couple months, leading up to HHH and then on into the fall months. I'll try to keep this first post updated as everyone chimes in with their intended rides and such. I'll kick if off by adding the rides I plan on doing. Information about most of these rides can be found here: Bicycle-Stuff (http://www.bicycle-stuff.com/main/07_rides/06-june.htm)

I wanted to ride the Collin Classic but I'm in a masters program at UTD and I have classes that weekend.
Where is the Tour de Italia? I couldn't make it for that one either, I'll be out of the country.

They've got rides that are only 20mi or so Santroin. btw, I started riding in late May of 2005, and did my first metric century (64mi) in September of the same year on a 25lb bike that was 3 sizes too big for me. Don't suggest you try the same as far as the wrong size bike, but you could be ready for shorter rides real soon especially if you get a good fitting road bike.

Craigslist- I've done solo metrics on my 30lb Centurion quite regularly- Bar Ends, 27" wheels and 6 speeds. I paid $75 from Fred Demetrovitch in Duncanville. He sells vintage bikes out of a storage unit, and had enough to choose from that I got an absolutely perfect fit for a lugged steel recreational bike. Cost me about another $50 for new cables and tires, vintage barcons.

Well, I've got my friends mtb with road tires on it, but it isn't the most comfortable. Hopefully, I'll have a road bike soon and can get out there. I think that is really the only thing stopping me. Oh...and those big hills. :(

I got an old Trek 800 for my 9yr old daughter. While I was there I looked around at his other bikes and he's got some sweet rides, (if you're into older, steel bikes with 27" wheels:)).
Do you know if he is down there every weekend?
Oh yea, my daughter has been piling the miles onto that bike. Quite a bargain!

You may fit on one of my roadies. I ride somewhere between a 58cm - 61cm depending on brand. My mountain bike was a 21"

Put me down for the Collin Classic, 37 mi. And the Tour de Italia, 50 mi. I dont see Hot Rocks in Aug, usually tw weeks before Hotter 'n Hell, or Jackrabbit Stampede in Sept. Are the rides listed on Bikes-Stuff just the ones supported by RBM, or are those rides not yet finalized?

The ones on the Bicycle-stuff site are those that the organizers have contacted him with information about usually. There's some links in another (stuck) thread in the texas forum with a more comprehensive list of rides state wide.

Agreed. Collin Classic last year is the only ride I've ever SAG'ed in on, and I most certainly wasn't the only one. Though if the forecast stays the way it is currently the heat will be the last of the concerns for the day.

I plan on riding the following -
Mesquite - 56 mile route (longest one I think)
Collin Classic - 100K
Tour of Italy - 100K
Tour of Paris - 100K
HHH - 100 Miles (if I can get to Hell's gate before it closes).
Will probably squeeze in something else if it looks interesting.

He is not there every weekend, but I have his number if anyone needs it. Search Fred_Demet as a seller on ebay as well. He had an Ironman Master that I wish I had picked up once, so I know he occasionally gets 700c 80's racing bikes.

I recently bought this 1981 Lotus from Fred, and rebuilt it as a single speed for my 13 year old nephew. All original parts including the wheels, brake levers, and the handle bars flipped and clipped. Fred has two storage units full of bikes. If you call him you can stop by and puruse the collection.
Well, I ran out of daylight tonight but did get in a hard 8.5 for 31 mins, a 16.9 avg, so I am definitly ready for the Collin Classic this Saturday 34 for sure. Time to push it.
Unfortunatly I wont get to Italy as it is Fathers Day weekend and I have my youngest daughter, and no one availible to watch her Saturday morning.

I did the Collin Classic this morning. The weather was totally beautiful!!! No wind and it wasn't too hot. I was invited to ride with Tinker Juarez and a group from Plano Cycling and Fitness (this is why I support my shop) that got to leave before anyone else did. It was awsome!!! That guy is a beast!!! At mile 42 we had an average of 22.1 MPH...that's when I dropped off. The cramps in the calves were too painful at that point. I've got a bad habit of not drinking when I'm on a fast ride. I stopped at the last rest stop, drank one bottle of water, refilled, met up with some other PACC guys and proceded for the last few miles.
This was a great ride and I had an awsome time. I'm finally getting my legs back after all of my incidents over th last month or so. I ended up with ~55 miles and an average speed of 21.3 MPH.
Cuda -- I hope I didn't scare you when we passed you:D I noticed you were riding alone; you should have hooked up with some of the PBA people since you are a member.

Kevin, I was between groups at the moment, I wrote a (long winded) ride report and posted in this forum. Didn't scare me, I was on alert already as the pack passed by. Over all I had a good ride, official avg was 18.4, but took it pretty easy the last couple miles into McKinney so 18.6 is more of an over all pace.

Add me to Tour d'Italia...
I did Gatesville Fire Ant tour this morning. 30 miles. It's pretty hilly in spots...not steep, just looong. And I'm not quite there yet. The bike got tired and I had to give it a walk a couple of times.
I look for to Italy next week...I hear it's very flat.

My crew & I were out today marking the route for next Saturday's Tour d'Italia. I would not call it 'flat', but but there are no long steep climbs. Just some nice rollers and such. We've changed the route this year, using the 100k route we haven't used for 4 or 5 years. It's a pretty fast route.

Tour de Italia is this weekend, looking for a few other riders to join a friend of mine and myself on the 50mi route. Plan an overall average speed of around 18mph, moving speeds of up to 20-21 or so on the flats. If we get a group of 5+ we should be able to rotate the line fairly regularly to keep us all fresh over the route. I usually skip the first stop, and catch the rest of them. Especially after last weekend when I skipped too many and my back is still complaining about that choice.

What time are you rolling out? I may follow you down there and ride with y'all. I'm rebuilding base right now so the speed that you describe is perfect.
Edit: I have a two bike roof rack if anyone wants to carpool down there with me.

I'm thinking of rolling out of my place at about 6:15. Google-maps claims a 1hr 15min drive to Italy, which would give a half hour to get ready once we roll in. That's about as close as I care to cut it. At least with another couple people around I won't foreget my helmet in the back of the truck before heading to the start line. ;)

Just registered for this ride. 36 miles. I am really nervous about it. I mean I just got my bike a week and a half ago and have never done more than an 11 mile route. granted last week I did 22 miles in a day last week, but I am also just nervous about such a big event with so little time training. Probably silly, but we will see after the weekend.

Kyle -- you will do fine. From our meeting last week you appear to be far from being out of shape. Just remember it is not a race and to ride your own pace. There are rest stops with food and drinks...use them. Most of all -- HAVE FUN!!!
