Hey guys,

My girlfriend and I have our first sprint of the season coming up this weekend (it's her 3rd sprint, my first). The extended forecasts calls for rain the day before and the day of the event. She has been fortunate that the races last year were in sunny hot humid weather.

Do you guys/gals have any advice on preparing/racing in wet conditions? For example, do I have to worry about lubing up the chain differently (we use prolink)? Advice on drying out the bikes after the event?

Thanks.

I'm sure your chain and all will be fine. You may want to wash and dry your bike afterwards. Apply a bit of lube back to your chain, derailleurs, etc.. I would think about weather too. Is it cold or hot where you are at? Hot and wet is not a big deal, but if its cold, be sure and think a bit about what you are going to wear and be sure you have the additional stuff you might want in transition.

ride a little bit lower tire pressure than normal. Be careful of turns, and watch out for painted lines, railroad crossing, and manhole covers, all of which become slick in the rain.

After the event, remove your seat posts (mark them first) and hang your bikes upside down to drain the water that seeped into your frames.

Put your running shoes and socks (if you are going to wear them) in a bag in your transition zone. The rain might let up and you won't have to run in wet shoes.

For the bike, follow what the three before said!
