I just bought a Schwinn Prelude project from a friend. He got it from the original owner, who apparently took the rear Maillard hub apart and lost the left cone, nuts, and a seal. The wheel looks okay otherwise. What success would I have trying to find a used Maillard hub and use the components in this one? Are there lots of different cones in Maillard hubs, or are they likely to be compatible in most?

Is it a helliomatic? (sp?) I think have a complete hub and freewheel at the co-op.

I have a Prelude like that. Good luck on finding dust seals. Your best bet is getting a used hub for parts. Really, those are crappy hubs. I could never get mine adjusted to turn smoothly. Good luck

Hey.. coincidentally, I have the axel cones, quick release off of a maillard hub that was on a schwinn tempo. I'll sell it to you if you are interested. The wheel was NOS but i took it apart and threw on a non-qr axel since i was building a fixed gear.

Thanks for the quick replies, folks, sorry I didn't get back here yesterday. The hub is a regular 6 speed. I appreciate the offer of the cones, Bluenote, but I was looking at several places, and apparently the dust caps will be a problem, too. I probably should find an intact hub and use the guts.

Maillard, atom and normandy hubs are all interchangable so you might have what you need.

What did you use to convert to single speed? I have a couple sets of Maillard wheels laying around that would make nice single speed wheels.
