My girlfriend is doing this triathlon. Anyone know of some good club rides or even group rides going on in the area? I am not that familiar with the Lubbock area....Also I am looking for some new road shoes....some names of good shops in the area would be helpful....I am just a road cyclist...she is the Triathlete.. If I can fit in 70 or so while she is doing her thing that would be way cool...

Thanks!!

The WTCA (http://www.westtexascycling.org) site has group ride schedules and contact information posted. Scheduled rides are just about every day of the week.

I'm sure if you contact a member or any of the LBS's you can hook up with someone in the area for one of the scheduled rides or even an unscheduled ride/event.

I know of four bike shops in Lubbock:

DFC (http://dfccyclesandfitness.com/)
Broadway Bikes (http://www.broadwaybikes.net/)
Velocity Bike Shop (http://www.velocitybikeshop.net/)
South Plains Cycles (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&rlz=1T4IBMA_en___US222&um=1&q=south+plains+cycles&near=Lubbock,+TX&fb=1&latlng=33563306,-101899322,12164025884017391940)

I ride with the group out of Velocity on Saturday mornings. The route varies, but we head out on the Ironman course. We don't do the course exactly, but we do a lot of the hills. I have heard that is a tough course for a triathlon, but just riding it isn't too bad. Let me know if you need any more info.

Looks like this ride would be right up my alley

Saturdays 8 AM from Church On The Rock

Does anyone have the address of this Church?

I will be staying at the:

Courtyard Marriott
4011 S Loop 289
Lubbock, TX 79423

Hopefully it is close enough to ride too in the AM...

:)

Any more info would be great....

The address for the church is 10503 Slide Rd, Lubbock, TX 79424. It's about 4 miles from the hotel you're staying in.

If you will be riding to/from the hotel, negotiating a safe passage on/around the Loop is tricky when weekend shopping traffic picks up around 10am, but you shouldn't have it too hard. Going out, just travel west, hit Quaker, then turn south. Go all the way to 114th street before making a break west for slide road, and return the same way coming back into town, taking Indiana back in instead of Quaker.

I'd contact the ride leader ahead of time to make sure they are on for that Saturday just so you don't find yourself out there alone if they don't get together that day. If you do end up solo, FM 1585 (and even 114) makes for a fast long/flat ride, and if you hit it going east you can ride to Slaton and back without turning off that street. That'll give you about 50 miles round trip. More if you go past Slaton and through Ransom Canyon where some of the Tri bike portion is being held.
