BMX - which one

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

First let me say that i would like to get another bike. The issue is this: i have two mountain bikes, and any part of the drivetrain that is attachted to or that touches the rear derailluer always breaks. This includes chains, derailluers, and hangers especcially. i would like a bike with which i don't need to worry about it breaking, and one that i will not spend all my money repairing. So what i am thinking is a bmx bike, a redline monocog 26inch, or a redline monocog 29inch. i would like to keep the price down though. I am leanding towards the bmx since i can get build kits for about 150-200 with a fork included.
i will also need new drivetrain tools mine are crap. any recomendations for inexpensive yet decent tools. no pedro's
so options:
29er monocog
26" monocog
bmx bike
I think should be posted in the Mountain biking section

why not singlespeed on the bikes you already have?

1. i would need a chain tensioner
2. the full susp would be terrible if even possible
3. i like my hardtail the way it is
the other possibility is to have the rigid frame and fork hanging around in my basement but the rear spacing is weird, besides it will probably cost more to get it to a single speed than it wold to buy a new bmx bike
not necessarily. I swapped this from full-geared MTB to SS BMX style for under $100.
Mind you I DID already have most of the BMX parts...
And what exactly do you mean by buying a BMX 24" build kit for $100 - 200? The cheapest quality 24" Complete is the DK General Lee, that's at $250-275 (correct me if I'm wrong). And to build your own cruiser from ground up is gonna cost you more. I'd say at LEAST $700. Anything less just wouldn't be worth it in my opinion.

the build kit is for a 20 inch from dans comp. i can't find a build kit for a 24 inch bmx bike. just so you know build kits don't include the frame

You'd just need 24" wheels and fork, lower bars, and obviously the frame. The rest should be the same. 24" wheelsets tend to be expensive though, and the gearing might be steep for a bigger bike.
A complete is a lot simpler, and you can replace whatever you don't like.
I see. The parts kits from Dans are crap. I wouldn't let my dog take a dump on them (if I had a dog).
By the time you're done, you could have gotten the DK General Lee for less.
OR my current recommendation for a 24", spend a bit more & get the We The People Unified

I like Surly (local...i own one...i like to endorse products w/o being paid)
My friend likes his Rock Lobster
we both bought our frames and used what we had...purchased what we needed...I have a small and Medium frame Surly 1x1...both are 26"...the small frame is a fun around-town-throw-it-around bike...my medium is (was) my off-road bike.

well it looks like i will have to replace my full susp first, so i will probably get an azonic steel head which can be both single speed and geared
Stop breaking drivetrain parts.
