I would love to see how the cable is supposed to go into this thing. I need to recable an old Trek Antelope with a 7 speed shifter on the right side. There is not cable on the bike at all and I'm just not sure how it goes.

I don't have a dia. but you need to shift to the seventh position(upper button if it is push-push, index finger button if it is push-pull)
Look opposite the adjuster(or the stop for the housing if it does not have an adjuster) there should be a hole in the plastic to feed the cable thru. If you cannot see the internal stop for the cable end thru the hole, then it has not been shifted far enough, you need to shift the other way, or the shifter is sticking(If you don't get a full set of clicks it is sticking and spraying some solvent in there can help)
Have you tried www.shimano.com? I don't know about that item, but so far, they've had exploded views and users manuals for everything I've tried to find.

They have lots of diagrams but nothing that old
It's just a index/friction thumb shifter, the casing goes in between the pod & the bar from the center of the bars, the cable slides in from the other side. Look for the little hole behind the lever.
