Will there be anyone else that's slow and familiar with the 50 mile route since I don't think I'm ready to go much farther?

I'll most likely have to drive up there.

And a friend wants to know if he can come along on his mtb [since his wife hasn't given him the okay to buy a road bike yet]?

Thanks!
Gary

I'm slow but persistent. I'm not sure whether I'll be riding the 50 mile or 70 mile. Depends a lot on the weather (hot or not) and at what time we get to the split point between the two routes. The split is at mile 41 on Jonathan's route sheet, which = about mile 37 with our start in Orinda, so there's lot's of time to assess and decide.

Your friend's welcome to come, don't have any idea how easy or hard the route will be on a mountain bike, I imagine it's a lot of extra energy over a road bike, but if he's in shape no problem.

OK, I'm going to start listing ride participants.

We'll start at Orinda BART @ 9:30 AM. Default ride is the 50 miler, with an optional 20 mile addition depending on how hot it is. Jonathan's route slip is fine, just shift the start point to Orinda BART.

There will be water along the route, but not for the 1st 25 miles or so. If you do the 50 miler there's no food or stores until mile 46 (Moraga) so bring lunch or snacks!!! On the 70 miler you can get food at Knowland Park, or along MacArthur Blvd in San Leandro, or maybe in Castro Valley, I'm not sure about that.

Elevations are per jonathanb715's routeslip.com maps.

Who's on board so far with your preference for distance:

So does the ride start in Orinda or Moraga? I would prefer Orinda so I could take BART.

We'll start Orinda.

Do you have a preference for 50 mi or 70 mi? (not binding)

The ride through Knowland Park has a small hill, but I 'm not familiar with the Stanley way so I can't compare. The idea was to avoid some of the urbanized traffic.
JB

OK, we'll go through the park, sounds like a good idea I haven't done that way, but Stanley is very urban. hey maybe we get to go to the zoo?

May a new thread with the ride date and a running list of people going would clear up this muddle.

BR, I just saw your post after I started up a rider list in this post (post #102). I'll keep it going here, if it's too confusing we'll start again.

Are you on board?

It looks pretty good for me too. I'll do the 70 miler.

I'll re-confirm later in the week.

I think I can make it - Sunday, right?

No preference... 50 or 70. Don't care.

Just to be sure... this is NOT going to be a hammer-fest, right? Because I don't think I'll be able to keep up if it is.

I would but I'm serving as EME at a 9:30 mass. If I wasn't, I'd go to an earlier mass and make the ride.
Enjoy the ride and hopefully I'll make the next one with jerseys in hand.

sucks, I'm gonna miss another NorCal ride.

Have a funeral to go to. My grandps passed away.

So someone said something about a Marin ride in Aug?
