this is a newb question so bare with me. are the shifters on tri bars click in gears like current road bike shifters or are they more like the old school tube mount shifters where you have to search for the gear. thanks in advance!

All of the one's I have used are indexed (they click into gear) but they also have a little lever on the side of them so that you can turn the indexing off (called "friction mode").

Bar end shifters can be set to indexed ("click") or friction (like old school downtube shifters). So it depens on how they're set up. I imagine that they're usually set to indexed.
