ahhh..we have someone who "get's it".;)

I wish that mankind had let thing progress naturally, so that the world could still be full of wonderful giants and mythical beasts.

But noooooo...we have to kill it, kill, kill, kill it if it's different or awesome. We have desroyed so much that would make you respect (and yes fear) nature, it's sad.:(

One day, when all the fear and wonder is gone, we will have no reason to leave any trace of nature behind in it's raw form, and be forced to watch cgi holograms and visit clone parks to see what the fuss was all about. All between trips from the parking deck to the mall, of course.

Pigs aren't native to North America.

I read that the kid shot his first deer at age 5. Why is a 5 year old hunting deer?

It has nothing to do with being a liberal. I just think it's weird for a 5 year old kid to shoot a deer; I don't see the point.

Not much scares me in a forest, except a pig that has gone wild. There is something about an omnivore that is much nastier than a predator. (we are omnivores) Bears, pigs, humans just to name a few.

I don't have much sympathy for a domesticated animal that gets loose, turn feral and ends up dead. I hear in some parts of the USA wild pigs are a serious problem. There isn't much danger in running out of them.

Serrendiper - anytime you want to see a monster pig, I am sure some pig farmer with a boar will be happy to let you see one of the evil things. I was chased by a 1,000 lb boar once. Not fun.

And there are some huge bulls out there I have seen - we even have Water Buffalo (imported) down here. Those things are so big that they just WALK through fences. They don't even notice the barbed wire.

There is no danger in losing large domesticated animals, after all, they are bred for size.

that monster pig, i'm pretty sure was a sham. i say that in 2003, when hogzilla was in full effect, the people found the biggest boar they could, fattened it for 4 years, and had a little fat kid shoot it

Thanks for clearing that up for me...I thought that guy was a giant forest god like in Princess Monoke.

Dead serious about this...you never know what's out there. So wild boars never become giants? Too bad.

Ever eaten game you've killed yourself?

Because it's the way people choose to bring there children up, hunting is fun and can teach you a lot.

Somebody who trusts them enough, the child obviously has expeirence firing and handling weapons. Would you rather have somebody who has 5+ years behind the trigger of such a weapon or somebody who just bought one and doesn't know their ass from their elbow?

Yeah, but that doesn't make the kid any less of a pathetic, cheating hick.

at 10, i fired my dad's .44mag....that thing is no .50cal, but it was plenty strong enough to blow holes through a 1/4" swinging steel plate (it's a type of target...it's not meant to have holes blown through it, but his hand-loads were hot enough for that kind if hit).

Given I really felt that thing recoil, but I was halfway accurate with it even then. If that kid used a gun that was muzzle weighted, then maybe it's possible.

Of course it could have been the kid pulled the trigger, but his dad was assisting him....my dad used to do that with me when I was just getting started with handgun shooting (given it was all target-pratice, I never hunted with him, since we had differing opinions on what made a good hunting spot).
