Touring - Cetma Racks

I was just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with the Cetma racks, im looking for a rack for the front of my fixie, i kno its not a touring bike but i kno you guys have the experience with the racks so i figured that i might as well ask u guys. Anyway they seem like they are great racks but i would like to hear from someone with direct expierence.

i know you can put panniers on them. there are pictures in his gallery of people doing it. i just don't like how they're all angled because the support that hooks to the axle goes down at an angle. it's all about pass & stow racks for that. (passstow.com)

I had one for a short time and was able to experiment with it for a tour. It was 5-rails and wasn't the best for mounting panniers since the bags top would interfere if it wasn't mounted on the outermost rail. If the panniers were soft topped, mine weren't, then this isn't a problem. The result was panniers that hung diagonally if they were on the outer end. The reality is that the rack was super sturdy once mounted, slightly heavy, but could load things never imagined before on a bike, ie: 2 12-packs or a bunch of pizza boxes. It is absolutely worth it for a commuting bike and will get one again when I'm done touring. One other thing, if you run with drop bars, then you lose some loading capacity since cargo might interfere with the brake levers, but if you have trekking/flat bars then it's totally open. For someone looking to have a sturdy front rack that can double as a tent carrier and pannier carrier, then the 3-rail would be ideal, the 5-rail is perfect if want a little more room up front to bring a handlebar bag with panniers. The 7-rail, well...if you need to lug a bike boxed up than I guess this would be the best option for you.

I have emailed Lane about the 3-rail being used with panniers. He sent a pic to show it's possible [same pic on his website with the 5-rail] I plan on ordering one this month.

I rode all weekend with 0-15lbs. on the rack. Many folks have asked about the effects on handling. It does seem to "slow down" the steering a bit...but it is super stable and if anything, it wants to stay straight and balanced...this allowed me to ride with no hands. I love it.

Dang, I ain't had a Lone Star since elementary school...
