A lady at work wants to sell her son's circa 1999 Giant XTC SE2 Mountain Bike. She says she paid $400 for it at the LBS when they bought it. I am going to look at it in a little while.

I'm on a budget, but I want to be fair.

What would the general going price for a bike like this go, assuming it's in good shape?

Four years old in Great condition wouldn't even be worth half of original price. If it's in decent shape, offer $150 and settle on $200.00.

It's actually a 1998 Giant Rincon SE.

Unless the bike was purchased and then stuck in the garage never to be used again!

Either way $200 tops. But it'd have to be pristine!

If you traded it in, you'd probably get $75 to $100.
