View Full Version : BikeForums Summer Picnic?
I was thinking about getting some of us together for a summer picnic. I know we all have busy lives i.e. bike riding, work, kids baseball, (insert name of kids sports). I thought I would start this thread to see how you all feel about it. BTW I do make an awesome shrimp ceviche. I know way are all geographically separated maybe we can start by deciding on a location.I will start by suggesting Bolsa Chica. I am open to any Sunday.

Cool. Just hope it matches my scheduled visit to SoCal. Sunday after GT would be perfect, but probably too soon, eh?
How about El Dorado Park in LB or one of the other parks on SGRT... that is semi centrally located..and since they are on the SGRT..lots of peeps could ride there!

From the Cali State Park website (http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=642): "Wi-Fi Service now available!"... Cool, we'll be able to log on to BF from the picnic site and chat!
I'm interested but I don't know how to cook, so if I come I'll most likely bring some food items I bought instead.
EDIT: Fixed link; thx! :)

A BF picnic!!
Sounds good....
Chino Hills park has BBQ's. I know this because I went for a Mtb ride on Sunday and then fired
them up...
Just an option~!

Will this include a ride before the picnic? Something not too long, so everyone can join in?

Never I even thought about Chino Hills, you are talking about the Carbon Canyon entrance off Lambert rite? The only thing is that if we want to have some sort of ride before the picnic most BF's riders are roadies ... maybe I am wrong, We have both so makes no difference to me.

At this point, only the last two weekends in June wouldn't work. I'm sure the kids would love it!

This involves having to see people, doesn't it?
I won't be back from RAAM until June 21st.

The location is correct. There are streets there, but I think you're correct, most are roadies,
and carbon canyon is mainly Mtb.
I have both also, so make either works for me!

I hate to point out the obvious here, but the O'Neill park area offers up BBQs, camping (including tent trailers and RVs, and superb road riding AND MTB options.

If we're going for more "serious riding", wouldn't it pose a logistics problem for ppl bringing in kids?

Not at all. The O'Neill park area is an awesome place for kids. There are plenty of things to do and plenty of ride options for the 'lil tykes.... They won't even realize that the houses are just a few hundred yards away.

Hey, don't plan around me! :o During the Del Mar season I'm pretty much day-to-day, but most of the big races days are on Sundays. August is one of the busiest working months for me, as I have to prepare for the fall meet in September. (Oh, and that LA Triathlon thing, too) I appreciate you thinking of me, though!!!
Just go ahead and pick a date, and I'll try my best to make it! :D :D :D

With a month's notice, practically any weekend in July is fine for me. I would love to schedule a few MTB rides to coincide with the BBQ. O'Neill park is a good choice.
For a little privacy, I'd suggest using the Mesa day use area across the creek on the bluffs. There's a really cool place we found last weekend that overlooks the entire park. I'd have to check on whether we could bring a BBQ or whether we'd have to use only the BBQs down below. Also, there may be free parking in the street bordering this area.

you can do a roadie ride from Carbon to GMR and back, should be about 60ish miles or so. But I'm sure everyone will be dead tired to cook after that ride. Or do a simple loop around chino/diamond bar. But there are plenty of options when starting from that park.

O'Neill is not central to the folks in the Los Angeles area I think Herb's choice of El Dorado Park is sounding better and better. Any other choices would be appreciated. BTW July 21 is starting to sound like a good date.
