You might remember me from my first thread here (http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=281955) in the Racing Forum. It turns out I bruised my shoulder and could not ride for 10 days.
That happened 2 months ago, since then I have been riding a lot, getting group ride and paceline experience, and going to the crit. Most of my time at the crit has been spent in survival mode, just hanging on and jumping back in. I finished the whole 50 min +2 last week but only after I was shelled and reattached a few times.

This week was a breakout. My legs were not feeling great and considered not going, but I decided to anyways. The first 15 minutes were uneventful, I was just trying to stay in the middle of the pack and my legs were whining at me. I looked at my computer and saw 25 minutes, so I knew I was close to having completed a Cat5 crit, and this was the time the pain sensors in my body went numb, I quit feeling anything. About 35 minutes in I found myself at the front of the pack and looked up to see the breakaway out of reach. Throughout this time I would follow a wheel and drop back to rest when I got too close to pulling. At one point I was in danger of falling off my wheel, but a guy gave a little push and I was able to latch back on, I was very greatful. 40 minutes clicked by, and I found myself in front way too much. 45 minutes and I was working far too hard, no one wanted to pull. I sat up at minute 46 and watched the pack shell me. I realize now I should have kept my head down and hung on the back, but my legs were totally blown out.

I am thrilled at the progress I have made, and I am chomping at the bit to enter a real race! I thought I would share it with you on the BF.

Great job! Making progress week to week when you first start out is one of the funnest stages of this sport. Enjoy it.

Awesome fight. Your fitness is doing great. When you get your pack efficiency a little higher, you'll be fresh for the finish.

When's your first race?

I'm looking at June 16-17th, but I'm still trying to decide between the Cherry Point Crit (http://www.ccvelo.com/) and the Savannah Stage Race (http://georgiacup.com/). I think I would be a bit more comfortable doing a single race my first time out, but Cherry Point is a looong 5 hour drive, and Savannah is less than 3. There is also the money issue with the Stage Race costing $85 and I'll need a license. I'm going to talk to my club members and see if anyone is racing that weekend and decide from there.
