Track Cycling: Velodrome Racing and Training Area - 130mm track rings? Is it ok to use....

I have a 130mm crank set on my bike I've been riding for track. I have a 48 x 15 I'm riding right now, but need/want to move up to a 50 x 15

I'm learning that 50t in the 130 is, well... Near impossible.

Now, they do make some road rings (9/10 speed, etc) in the 50t x 130mm that I'm looking for. Would there be any major negative effect of doing so?

I wouldn't see why? But definitely wanted to ask here first. Yes, it's the lighter aluminum and not stainless steel, but I can live with a shorter life span for now until I know I'm going to stick with it and upgrade my bike.

Thoughts? And thanks for the help.....

Is you problem that you want a cheap ring or that you can't find a 130mm dedicated track ring?

you can order a 50t TA piste ring from Business cycles.
If you just want to save money you could get any cheaper ring too.

They are all aluminum though and you may want to try a 49t first.

Road rings will work fine......as long as they are not Bio Pace rings.
