Road Bike Racing - Crit or Road Race

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So which do you prefer?
I prefer crits. I like the close-quarters racing.

Crit Racing all the way!
Close quarters, high speeds, instant gratification...
Not that there's anything wrong with a good road race, but for sheer addrenaline, it's just no contest.

I responded with road race only because I get less of a chance to ride them. I get to ride in maybe 4 or 5 a year if I'm lucky and my schedule allows it. With that being said, I rode a 66 mile RR last weekend and have the state championship RR this coming Saturday.
Crits are pretty much every week where I live and real close to home. Not that I don't enjoy Criterium racing, it's just something I get to do all the time. Some of the better Criteriums of the year are coming up in the next month to month and a half. Not your standard circuit race series crits but one day festival events in a couple of pretty cool cities so I'm getting pumped up for those.

I went back and forth on this before voting for road racing. I do enjoy crits, both watching and racing them ... but they just don't entail the same strategy or effort that a road race does, especially a road race stage within a stage race. I am also better at road racing so that played heavily into my decision.
Good luck in the state championship road race BikeInMN ... what category are you racing?

This should be my final RR as a Cat4. I'm hoping for for a top 10 finish as my legs have felt pretty good the last few weeks. The course is 4 laps of a 13.5 mile course that's packed with hills and the finish-line is at the top of a 1 mile climb.
I'd have to say crits. But, like someone else said above, there are so many around here, a good hard road race is nice when they come around in the calendar.
