Mountain Biking - Worth it to upgrade older hardtail?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have an older univega 602s, and am just getting back into riding. The bike has a rock shox quadra 5 which really sucks and needs to be upgraded. It seems to be hard to find forks with a 1" steer tube these days. Do you guys have any recomendations, or should I just ride it like this for a while, and buy a new bike later?

I'd buy a new bike. The Univega isn't a bad bike, but it will be cheaper to just buy a new one instead of upgrading all the parts. Then you can keep the 'vega for a beater, or convert it to SS! :D

Yeah, I think I'm coming to that conclusion too.
