i wanted to give racing a try, but i wanted to start off in the slowest category...where would i got about finding the slowest category race in western PA? I know there are races at a oval track near by, but i dont want to race like that...i would like an actual road course...any thoughts on where?

all the racing in PA is slow ... especially yinz guyz dahn in picksburgh 'n-at:D

I am not sure what you mean, but you would have to start as a Cat V, which should be the slowest.

Why don't you want to race at the Oval?

I think it's an excellent place for someone to pick up racing experience.

Tuesday night's 'C' races are for Cat 4 and 5 racers. Everyone's very supportive of new racers, and I think you'll find it easier to hang onto the group than you might think.

everyone tells me there are a lot of crashes at the oval...im a broke college student and i dont have enough money to fix a broken bike...i just think i'd feel more comfortable in a open road course

I've done 5 races at the oval so far and only seen one rider go down. And that was on the last lap in the A race. You should really give it a shot.

The oval is a GREAT place to start. It's where I did my first race with my road bike. As stated, there are a bunch of road races you can also do, but you shouldn't hesitate on racing the oval. There are going to be crashes no matter what race you choose. Also, there is a race EVERY week at the oval!

Don't be intimidated. Race it. If you get dropped - don't sweat it. If you race it you'll be hooked!
