I do not know these people, of course, but I can not rule out temper, drugs, revenge for something that did not happen, or jealosy.....

Lot of marginal personalities in the world, people with
impulse control disorders. Witness the strange tale
of the lady astronaut driving to Fla. NASA recently
bounced the male side of that triangle as well.
Would be interesting to see what the perp ends up with
in the way of a sentence. Even odds good lawyer
could get her off on an 'abuse' basis whether there was
any or not. Just trash whatever rep (good or bad) the
dead guy had to justify her behavior. Be
surprised if she has to serve more than a few years
worst case. Females and children can literally get away
with murder.
