hey, all of a suden I just wanted to try BMX'ing.I guess after watching my neighbors for a couple years it became interesting to me. I just had some questions and am hoping to build my own beginner bike. Since im new, id like to know some of your opinions. Probly used mostly for street, vert when i find some local places. First off I need a frame. Im 5'11 135 lbs and looking for a light frame but not too expensive because this is just for now and Ill see if I get better at it. I need to know about some rims to.( i know you get what you pay for too) but its just for a begginer. Any advice would be great. thanks
steve

As a beginner, it is best to go for a complete bike then upgrade it as you go along. What is your budget?

DK Six pack, DK Four pack, Fit Flow.

All good completes. The more you pay now, the less you pay later.

well right now i have about 300 bucks but if I set my goal for something Ill save for it. Im not looking to spend id say over 500 or alot less if I can find one. Im not sure how much complete bikes are that you bring it up.

Hows ebay? I see some for around $200-300 used. But id be sure to look everything up about the bike before I make any purchase

don't listen to this guy. buy a dk. or a fit.

Get a DK Six Pack. They are known to be the best bikes for beginners. They are very solid for their price tag. I have a Fit, and wish I didn't.

would you like it more if you had a flow? or you dont like fits all together?

FitRider 921

I would definitely rather have a Flow. The Fit Pro really sucks. The whole bike is falling apart on me.

how so?

I will make a list:
-pedals broke in first week of use
-frame has chunks missing from it and is most likely going to crack soon
-rims are quite wobbly (Jalco rims suck)
-handlebars are bent

This is only from about three months of use and I am not that hard on my bike and I only weigh 125 pounds.

I hope you are kidding in regards to the titanium spindle... do you really need to lose weight that badly? If you wanted to save weight, then just buy Fly cranks or something better. I haven't heard anything bad about the Flys.
Good sprocket, super expensive.
That back wheel sounds like a helluva lotta money.

I think I would get a Kink OG sprocket, I like those.

hey, well thanks for all the side convorsation, but i dont care, I was thinkin of going with the Dk six pack, but i dont know about the steel frame, I was thinking something like aluminum, or whatever light type of frame there is.

FitRider 921
05-31-07, 07:23 PM
Aluminum is not a good idea. Everyone thinks they can get away with light frames like that, but you can't. You need a frame made of chromoly.

testdummy
05-31-07, 07:30 PM
can you kinda give me a gist of what chromly is(sounds like chrome???) is that another type of metal instead of steel aluminum carbon etc. And what are the pluses about it over steel and the others?

minichamp31
05-31-07, 07:40 PM
For one, it's lighter than steel. And two, it's stronger. I don't know what it is though.

FitRider 921
05-31-07, 07:46 PM
Chromoly is a mixture of different things and it is a lot stronger than hi-ten, and lighter. Aluminum and carbon are both lighter, but a lot weaker and not usable for much of anything other than racing.

So I should go with the Dk six Pack, theres one on ebay used for about 190 shipped, or should I spend 330 on a brand new one.

05-31-07, 08:18 PM
allright i was looking around again, and just thinking back to my original thoughts. Couldnt I just buy the a frame. I have a haro 540 air, Ill just use the tires and rimes, by a new brake setup and new chain ring probly handlebars too? wouldnt this save me money depending on wat frame I get, and any suggestions for something light and affordable. I like the Idea of building it myself because i like to tweak, and it could save me a little cash.

Or should i ust stick complete and upgrade/change parts?

FuzzyRyder
05-31-07, 11:11 PM
Chromoly is high quality, high strength steel.

For once you are right. I'd probly just get the regular Profiles with the hop up kit (*****in' bolts and flush mount washers)
Good sprocket, super expensive. You get what you pay for. Tree sprockets seem like the best out. I'd pay $60 for a sprocket that went through all the testing and stuff that Tree's do.
That back wheel sounds like a helluva lotta money. But well worth it. Best hubs, spokes and rims out.

I've been right more than once. I think.

In regards to the sprocket, if you have the money, go for it.

Word.
