All,
I am looking for a route from the Mesquite area to Rockwall. The only idea I have at this point is to take Hwy 66 through Rowlett. Not sure it is even legal to bike across the I-30 bridges. Hwy 78 seems to be WAY too far out of the way...
I am also looking for a route from Mesquite east to Terrell. I see folks on the US-80 service roads all the time but I don't know what they do when they get to the river below the Ray Hubbard dam. There isn't a service road there and I would be forced to ride on the shoulder of US-80.
Any thoughts??

Your kinda limited on your route choices. Coming from Mesquite, Beltline/Broadway to Rowlett Rd to Hwy 66 is your best bet into Rockwall, all 4 lane roads so you arent going to be feel cramped. There is construction at Rowlett rd and hwy 66, but there are roads around it.
It is a lot trickier getting to Terrel from Mesquite. the service road does end before you get into Forney along 80. And the service road ends after Lawson on 20 as well. Thas a good problem to solve. I like solving these kinds of problems:) I'll get back to you on this.

Thanks Chris. I will probably try the route into Rockwall later this week. I am just kinda bummed that there isn't a better option.

Ok, according to the map I see on mapmyrun.com Sycene turns into a road called Trinity and that lead right into Forney. I dont know what type of road this is i.e. dirt or paved, but if it gets you into Forney then you are home free. You could work your way to 80 and take the sevice road from there, and that leads right into Terrell.
BTW, Trinity starts right after Sycene and Lawson and follows the train tracks. Other than that there doesnt seem to be any other way

I think Trinity might not exist as a roadway anymore. I may be wrong, but I think it is just a dirt road running along side the RR tracks. If you can negotiate the road itself, you'll probably have to cross the river up on the RR bridge. Of course, this isn't the toughest thing to deal with, but something to keep in mind.
