Velodrome = first banked closed-circuit track?

I think so. In the late 1800's, bike racing on the track became very popular, and velodromes were built all over. Read that book about Major Taylor for a good look at the history of the era.

The only other banked tracks I can think of are auto/motorcycle racing, indoor running tracks, and roller derby.
