Nice bike :)
:crash:
Congratulations on your divorce with the kickstand. Now, to achieve Jedi status, young man, you must remember one important thing about The Force: never lay your bike down on its right side .
Seriously, now that you're laying your bike on the ground like the rest of us, do it on its left side so that the rear derailleur isn't damaged or pushed out of alignment. Make it a habit, and this simple thing will save you grief, Young Luke. :D

Next step remove the reflectors.
Where have u been Pterman? I havent seen u post in a while. Plus what wheelset did u order?
Meh, I can't lean mine on either side safely. Rotors on one side, deraillers on the other. But I usually put mine on the rotors.. I'd rather replace a rotor than an expensive derailler!

You must run XTR...its a lot cheaper for me to replace my deore shifter than an 80$ rotor :) (canadian prices remember)

I called my Grandpa and he said, "Steelers' Wheel!", but I didn't know Pittsburgh had that nickname.

I try not to lay my bike down. Its interesting what you can lean a bike up against. I'm pretty good at using the pedal as a support. Ain't bikes fun!

If you position the bike and the pedal (and possibly the front wheel) correctly, you can lay the bike on the left side without having the rotors come into contact with anything. It's a little bit harder to protect the derailleurs in this manner though. The other thing you might want to try is turning the bike upside down and standing it on its handlebars and saddle.

Although it's hard to tell, it doesn't look like that frame and fork are disc-compatible. If you want to switch to disc-brakes then you'll probably need the following:
[1] Disc-brake adapter for the rear. The cost depends on the frame but you're probably looking at at least $50 for a decent quality one if it's even available for that frame.
[2] New fork with disc-tabs. I know some people have modified an existing fork but unless you really know what you're doing and are good with a welding torch, I wouldn't advise this. If you want to stick with a unicrown rigid suspension fork like you currently have, you can probably find one with disc-tabs for around $80. If you want to go suspension then you're looking at at least $200 for an entry level fork of decent quality.
[3] If you are thinking of going with hydraulic discs then you'll need to replace the current brake levers with ones that come with the brakes (or equivalent). This might entail replacing the shifters if the shifters are integral with the brake levers. I think you can remount some into independent brackets but you might end up having to buy new shifter pods. A decent pair of LX shifters will probably run you around $75 but you might be able to find them cheaper. Check pricepoint. ;)
[4] You'll probably need to replace your hubs. You might be able to find some inexpensive disc-compatible hubs for around $60 for the front and $150 for the rear. And unless you're good at wheel building, you'll need to get them rebuilt with the new hubs. Check with your LBS. The other option is to buy prebuilt disc-compatible wheelsets which will probably run you in the range of $300 for both front and rear for decent wheels.
[5] The brakeset themselves. The cheapest is to go with mechanical discs like the Avids. I think you can probably get away with $200 for both front and rear and you can just use your current levers. Hydraulics will run you in the $500 range for both front and rear.
One other option is to just convert the front to mechanicals. This will allow you to reuse your current levers. You'll still need a disc-compatible fork, front hub (with front wheel rebuild) and one brake (around $100). Since the front brakes supply 70% of the stopping, this is probably the biggest bang-for buck and you can always upgrade the rear later.
To be honest, it's probably cheaper and much more cost-effective to buy a whole new bike which already has discs.
